Paris in July?

Am I mad for even considering it? I've two boys 14 & 10, both autistic. Last year we decided to take a foreign family holiday for the first time. None of us are beach/pool type people so we decided on Paris, completely oblivious to the Olympics. Now I'm planning on booking it I'm concerned about how busy it is likely to be and the potential temperatures. I should point out that I'm naturally anxious and prone to overthinking at the best of times.
I like that it's a short direct flight from N.ireland, as neither of the boys have flown before. DS1 wants to go to France in particular, he's doing well in French in school and is excited to put it into practice. DS2 wants whatever his big brother wants and DH wants to go sightseeing.

The only other direct flights are to Nice, Lyon or Bordeaux.
If we go before the official games start is it likely to be much busier? How bad could it be?

Can you get a ferry and go to a Eurocamp? There are plenty not near beaches and they are set up with loads of family stuff.

I looked at ferries but it's costing a fortune and means a long drive down and back. I want to keep the actual travelling time to a minimum and DH isn't that keen on driving. We aren't seasoned travellers, it
s been 20 years plus since we've been abroad.

We’re doing Paris in Aug, we’re going after the olympics because hotels are very expensive during, we couldn’t afford it. We’ve booked a hotel with air con, it will be hot, but hopefully not too uncomfortable.

Jumping on your thread for any advice!

If you are going before the Olympics you will be fine, see if you can book a hotel that is not mid centre but still local. After the Olympics, in August lots of smaller shops will close as in August most parisians go on holiday themselves as Paris tends to have hit weather then. We always stayed at Quartier Latin or at Grand Hotel Gobelins, just outside QL. Easy getting around from there.

I went in August once. I won't go again unless hotel has air conditioning.
