Holiday pricing glitch or just how it works?

I booked this year's holiday last year. 10 days in a Dordogne campsite. Price £740 plus travel costs. This for a top of the range mobile home. As a price it felt fine, good but not an amazing bargain.

I was sorting out some details on the booking and out of curiosity looked to see how much it would be if I were to be booking now for the same time: £1,768. Over £1k more!

My gast is flabbered!

Was there some weird glitch when I booked and I got the price for a tent? Or is this just how the pricing works?

That's normal.

That’s just how it works. People book holidays in January, so the price goes up according to the demand.

PamelaParis · 14/01/2024 10:49

Er yes that's how pricing works. The further in advance you book, the cheaper it is.

Rainbowshit · 14/01/2024 10:52

Clear your cookies and you might find the price goes down. They price according to demand.

Interesting, I expected the early booking discount - listed as £172 - to be gone but hadnt realised the pricing was so dynamic.

I guess I am even more out of touch than I had realised!

Back in the olden days (we have been going on these sorts of holidays for 25 years) there was much more of a 'list price' to which loyalty or early booking discounts were applied.

I'm used to flight prices bouncing around but didnt expect the accommodation cost to do the same.

It’s crazy. We booked a weekend away and they reduced the price afterwards. I guess it’s pot luck.
I always go by the motto ‘what am I happy to pay.’
It is annoying though how dynamic pricing works.
I preferred it way back when the price you laid was clearly stated in the travel brochure. There again, I preferred being allocated your flight seat in arrival at the airport plus being able to take as much luggage as I could carry 😀

@Holidayhell22 I agree with your motto. If the price offered at the time of booking had been the same as today's price then I wouldn't have booked this holiday, we would probably have booked a villa.

We now need to get on and book the journey down and back: euro tunnel and overnight hotels. We will do these direct.

@Rainbowshit I tried the price for booking direct and with another company with a similar price result.

Interestingly it looks like Eurocamp and Canvas are now one and the same which is another change I had missed.

Yes I think there are a lot of factors like how booked up it is etc.
Me and DH were looking at hotels yesterday for a trip we have booked. We saw a fairly good price for a hotel but just wanted to look at other options first. When we rechecked 30 minutes later it had gone up by £20 a night. DH checked again afew minutes later and it had gone further. I then went on the site on my phone and it was the original price DH saw. Safe to say we booked it immediately. I assume they do that to encourage panic and get you to book before it goes up anymore.
