Croatia advice for August

Kingsx1 · 14/01/2024 10:14

We (family with teens) are looking at Croatia for August. We want mix of beach, nice towns for evening strolls and the odd daytrip (waterfalls etc)

We went to Dubrovnik, Korcula and Mljet backpacking for our honeymoon so are looking at other locations as like to see new areas. Flights to Zadar and Split look reasonable (cheaper if in to one out another) . Suggestions on itinerary? Can you
pick up hire car Zadar and drop Split ?
are the waterfalls worth it if can’t swim in them? Any smaller ones you can?
TIA

Watching with interest as catching ferry to Zadar and then driving down to a few places.

Just done a bit more research I like the sound of
the following places around Split so any advice on an itinerary and transport much appreciated, probably 9 days:

3-4 days in Brac to chill
Omis zip line
Trogir
Blue Lagoon
Maybe the Krka waterfalls or is it too frustrating not being able to swim given August?!

any other must sees?

thanks

Following with interest. Have a 15 and nearly 18 year old so like the idea of trying Croatia and moving around a bit.

You won't necessarily need car for Brac. Bus leaves airport for bus station frequently. 2 mins walk to ferry port. Ferry to Supetar.
Supetar or Sutivan both nice.
Last day/night in Trogir would be enough.
August crazy busy though.

Last year me, DH and DS (11) did 10 days in Croatia and all absolutely loved it! We flew in to Pula, hiring a car at the airport. We then spent a few days in Rovinj which is a lovely old town, and did day trip to Istralandia (second best water park in Europe!) We then moved inland and spent 2 nights at Plitvice lakes which was absolutely stunning. You don’t even want to swim in it as you know that people doing so would ruin the colour of the water. I honestly can’t describe it, one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. From there we drove to Split and got ferry over to Brac, spent a few nights in Bol which again we loved, Zlatni Rat beach was fab, water so warm it’s like a bath. Finally we spent one night in Split, then flew home from there. Hopefully that gives you a few more ideas!

Ooh yes, like the sound of this trip, has things that each of us would particularly like, thank you :)
is it easy to hire a one way hire car?

I did a trip to Croatia where we stayed in Dubrovnik, travelled north to split then went further North to Zagreb but stayed one night in Grabovac to visit the plitvice lakes. I loved Dubrovnik and split and I think if I went again I would stay more coastal and maybe go over to the islands like Brac or Hvar and explore more of the Dalmatian coast. Honestly the plitvice lakes were nice to see as a day trip but I wouldn't go again as was just a tourism conveyer belt. Nearer split and zadar you have the krka lakes and national park and I think you might be able to swim there if you do research of local spots!

Yes it’s easy, you just have to pay a little more to return the car to a different location.

With regards to Plitvice, if you stay in the area overnight the night before and head to the park first thing you’ll largely avoid the crowds as bus tours come in from Split etc a bit later. We stayed in a cute chalet place, with the mountains around it felt like being in the Swiss Alps or something!

Following as thinking along the same lines this summer
