Best credit card for abroad spending

Going to the USA in April on holiday. What is the best credit card from experience that won't incur charges for using abroad?

Halifax Clarity or there is a Barclaycard Reward credit card (you earn a small amount of cash back). Both charge zero foreign exchange fees. Chase (although a debit card) has no fees and you earn 1% on all spending. I travel a lot and always use these cards

We have Nationwide credit cards who don't have fees for spending abroad. Works well but there are no rewards or similar so they are a holiday credit card only.

We use Halifax Clarity. If you are able to move your monthly cut off/billing date to half way through your holiday, it means you can pay off any spending in two interest free payments. (Useful trick!)

Another Halifax clarity user here too.

I use Barclaycard Rewards. No fees for withdrawing cash and no exchange rate fees when making purchases. Have used it for a couple of years now. Their app is really easy to use too.

I use Barclaycard Rewards as well, also my current account is Starling which has no foreign exchange fees.

I know you’ve asked for credit card but I would also recommend a wise debit card.

Halifax clarity, I agree with others! Free spending in Europe and the app is accessible too

Floralnomad · 12/01/2024 13:34

Our son opened a Starling account for using just when he’s abroad , it’s a no fee debit card .

Curve, linked to whichever credit card you use for benefits. Personally, I link it to my Avios Barclaycard.

Halifax Clarity here too.

Also Halifax Clarity. But a handly little card that almost nobody has heard of - CurrenSea. It's not a credit card, it's a direct debit travel card. It links to your bank account, and when you spend money on it the money simply comes out of your bank. The exchange rate is pretty good, but where it comes into it's own is ATM's - no fees at all, and that includes no interest on cash withdrawals. It's one of Martin Lewis's recommended go to's.

Spend on the credit card, withdraw cash on the CurrenSea card.
