Florida in July

We are thinking about Florida in mid-July. It's for a specific event so the date isn't moveable. Around the Orlando area.
Are we completely nuts? Is the heat unbearable?

It will be very very humid and hot. If that bothers you, then it will be unbearable outside. However everywhere has aircon and you don’t really need to be outside unless you wish to be I.e parks.
Personally it’s not for me (family there and been in summer), but loads do it.

It's pretty unpleasant and sticky. It rained at 1pm every afternoon for 1-2 hours - you could set your watch by it, but at least it gave relief from the heat.
Also, they tend to close the water parks and swimming pools if there's a thunderstorm with the risk of lightening.

We've been March, April, May, June and October.

Other than the March trip (which was still sweaty and sunburn) the other 4 months were that thick, dirty hot.

October and June especially we had locals telling us it was as hot as/hotter than summer. (40+)

So just go when suits. It's always bloody hot! I'd trade for it today.

Take fans/cooling towels/lots of rest stops.

We went at the end of June and it was between 35-40 degrees. It was v hot but we managed fine at the parks etc. there was air con and we were prepared.
We have to go during school hols (Scotland) so didn’t have lots of choice!

MrsNandortheRelentless · 11/01/2024 20:27

Yes, stifling.
Aircon is good.
Take frozen bottles of water out with you. Stick them in the freezer overnight.
We took those fans that spray water, filled them with cold water and ice cubes, lovely.

Humongous 3 hour queues at the parks in 35degree heat is shite. I think you can virtual queue nowadays though.

It's the humidity which is unbearable for me. We went end of June a few years ago and it was so humid. Soaked in sweat as soon as we walked out of the hotel. We did magic kingdom at Disney for the first time ever and spent most of the day in the shops under the aircon as it was so bad!

TomAllenWife · 11/01/2024 20:57

I've been in January, May & August.

To be honest May was the worst for heat
January the worst for queues (although the other visits were pre covid)

I didn't find the heat too bad in August or May, plenty of air con everywhere!
The children break up early in USA so will be busy AF in July that would put me off

We went in mid July last year as a post GCSE treat and didn’t find it that bad. Yes it was hot, but we drank loads, re applied sunscreen a lot and enjoyed the queues, shows and shops with AC.
We were also up and out with the larks so had the cooler mornings.
The queues really weren’t that bad and we didn’t have to buy genie plus or lightening lanes.

We went in July last year (teacher only time we can go) it wasn’t unbearable but was very hot and humid and I usually love the heat. We took frequent aircon breaks and I bought a spray fan which I used frequently. Just be prepared to sweat and drink loads.

Overall, it was a fantastic holiday though.
