USA Road Trip

Hi

We have done a lot of the US over the years but have never really taken in the Mid-West and are looking to rectify this. We have bought flights to New Orleans and are going to meander north over three weeks eventually ending up in Chicago although we are also looking to hit Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota and possibly Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota if there is anything that is worth the drive. I know its a lot to take in, but as we all know, driving in the US outside of the cities is a pleasure.

We have not planned our itinerary yet and want to make sure we hit the high spots along the way. Down south we will be visiting New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville and St. Louis and maybe Natchez, Greenwood and Cleveland and wondered if there are other "must sees/dos" in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas while we are in the area.

i look forward to any ideas.

On the way from New Orleans to Memphis you may also want to stop at Vicksburg & Clarksdale. I would recommend driving the Natchez Trace Parkway.

If you are an Elvis fan, maybe head over to Tupelo. And a visit to Jack Daniel’s distillery.

Possibly too far east for this trip but Atlanta is a cool city for even 1 day. And I love the smoky mountains. Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg are the main touristy towns and you can have a day at Dollywood. Lots to see and do in the smokies.

That sounds like such a fun and interesting trip! I envy you.
I love travelling around the U.S., but I have not visited many of the Midwestern states, so not a lot of advice from me.

I have been to Kansas, though. Kansas is beautiful!

Author Willa Cather's childhood home and the National Willa Cather Center is in Red Cloud, Nebraska. I have never been there, but it's a dream destination for me.

Hopefully you will get more advice from other people here!

Try to visit the Blue Ridge Mountains in East Tennessee if you can. I don’t know if you like historical architecture but there are roughly 11 Frank Lloyd Wright houses in Ohio.

God, isn't it. Wide open roads.

Never done that area but sounds fabulous. I'd love to go to the Great Smoky Mountains - Pigeon Forge and Dollywood! Desperate to go there one day! Along with a trip to Nashville.
