Perth in July

Hi all. We have booked Perth for three weeks in July (flying SA). We will be in Perth to see family but also want to see the best of the area considering it is winter. Question! Is it worth taking an internal flight to Exmouth for a week to have a more summery outback/beach experience even though these flights are £££. This will be a rare trip with two dc (age 11/16) so want to get the best out of it. Family recommend Margaret River etc but I wonder if going northwards might feel a bit more different for us. Thanks for any advice and hope this isn’t too niche!

Hi, I did almost the same thing in 2015. Flew to Perth with dc (14 and 16 at the time). We did a week in Perth catching up with friends and family, then 5 days at Ningaloo, back to Perth and then down to the southwest for week.
We still talk about the Ningaloo holiday. It was fantastic, but I really enjoy snorkelling and hiking so was in my element. It was worth it for a 'summer' holiday.
Having said that, visiting Nannup/Bridgetown/Manjimup triangle has its charms. The Gloucester tree is worth climbing and the wattle is in full bloom. Margaret River is definitely worth visiting.
The weather won't be warm. It can be 8 Celsius max in the southwest. However, it never rains for more than a day and you still get the glorious blue sky in between, with temps into the mid teens.
Perth temps are better, it can reach 20C in the day.

I lived in Perth for 7 years. Please feel free to ask any questions. Hope that helps.

Thank you Brambee. Did you fly to Ningaloo at the time? The prices are very high but like you I love the prospect of snorkelling and the great Australian outdoors. The fact you still speak about it almost seals the deal for me! It seems a horrendously long drive for a week so flights are the best option.

Hi, yes, we flew into Exmouth. I did consider a road trip, but then realised the huge distance and the fact that most of it would be quite tedious for two teenagers sat in a car😂

We fly to exmouth, hire a car and go to Coral Bay. It’s stunning. You only need a weekend though. I love Margaret River. We stay in Dunsborough when we visit. It’s right on the beach. I always imagined living there before we left Perth and came back to the UK it’s got a nice town feeling. Margaret River has some amazing wineries and food. There are parks and beaches for the kids to see if that’s there thing. No trip is complete without a visit to Simmos for an ice cream.

Thank you both. I have noted all suggestions. Shocked by the price of Exmouth flights so will keep an eye and see if they come down. Much appreciated
