Has anyone been to Ciutadella? If so, what's it like? What is there to do?
I've had a look on Tripadvisor etc but wondered if there was anyone here who had been

It's very pretty but I would say to stay there for a day tops - there isn't much to do at all, unless you're booking a boat trip from there.

Thanks @Mallani. We're looking to use it as a base to explore the island, as well. Sounds like we will need to do more of that than I originally planned!

I have been many times! It is a small Island and so staying anywhere would be a good base really. There is so much to do on the small Island of Menorca, you won't be disappointed.

Pretty town, plenty places to eat, playpark in the square by the bus station, has a market a couple of times a week. Great for catching buses all over the island. There are actually 2 bus areas, so make sure go to the right one. It has a small beach area. We often stay at cala santandria and walk into cuitadella but there is a bus you can get.

It's a beautiful island with much to see but it's not party central if that's your vibe. Not many water park type things. But many many beautiful beaches and rocky areas to jump off.

Great for boat trips to hard to access beaches.

It's just about an hour to get to the old capital of mahon on the other side of the island.

Fornells in the north is a lovely fishing type harbour with nice places to eat.

Pretty town, nice for a day. Beautiful
island with a range of resorts depending what you like

It’s my favourite small city anywhere. Menorca is a lovely island and very easy to get around by car or using public transport.

AreYouShittingMe · 06/01/2024 08:21

Thank you everyone! We don't want to go anywhere too lively, but it sounds like there's enough to do on the island and it's all accessible, either by car or public transport.

They have a festival in Cuitadella with those jumping horses at a certain time of the year - might be worth trying to overlap with it.

Btw just you be a pedant, someone said Mahon the old capital... Cuitadella is actually the old capital. Mahon was made the new capital by the British, I think.

Ladolcevita233 · 10/01/2024 15:33

There are a hundred and one beautiful beaches to visit .... From resort ones to what they call "virgin" beaches. There is a coastal walking trail that links quite a few of them.

I'd also recommend the caves de Xoroi (Cova D'En Xoroi) - I thought they were phenomenal.

Mahon is also worth a visit.

There is also a horse buggy racing track on the edge of Cala N Forcat/Los Delphine's, about 15/20 minutes from Cuitadella - every Sun evening I think.

There are buses between Cuitadella and the resort/s.

It was mostly Menorcan people and quite an authentic/local experience.

It's mostly about betting, there's also a (very busy) bar and they try to do pizzas but were sending them out half cooked with we were there. Enjoyed the atmosphere though.

We used to go there on all inclusive holidays when I was a child. It's a very small town but I remember it having some cafes, restaurants and small shops. We stayed in a hotel about ten minutes walk along the docks and it was very pretty. We walked into town most days for ice cream and a wander.

It's definitely not a big town, but better than most towns near all inclusive we went to. I'd go back with my children in future.
