Florence or Seville with a 3 year old (or alternatives)

Hello - I'm looking for somewhere to go with our 3 year old in Jan/Feb. Ideally somewhere compact and walkable where there isn't loads of traffic so that she can run around a bit, and sunnier than the UK. Any suggestions welcome, though we've done (with or without her) Rome, Venice, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Verona and would like to go somewhere new. Thank you :)

I went to Florence with a 3 year old and I’m not sure I’d recommend it. Apart from a carousel and lots of ice cream, we struggled to entertain her! Although it was the middle of summer and I was pregnant so that may clouded my view! I haven’t been to Seville, but we did take her to Lisbon at 2 which worked really well.

Athens is very walkable.

Seville would be lovely. Nice and sunny, pretty and fairly compact.

Another vote for Athens - wonderful city and excellent teams out to the beaches and ferries to nearby islands

Seville has a lovely square with restaurants and bars around playgrounds. It's fantastic.

Florence is absolutely freezing in January. Seville will be a lot warmer.

TheBestSpoon · 02/01/2024 18:38

I was going to say Barcelona as that was an enormous hit with our just 4 year old in February (so many playgrounds!) but see you've already been there. We also enjoyed Athens, albeit with a younger child, and Copenhagen but that's probably a bit too cold this time of year.

Valencia would be another option. There is a brilliant aquarium, the old town is very compact and there is a lovely park that runs between the old town and the complex that has the aquarium and science museum (which also has child friendly spaces). You can also easily get to the beach for a run around.

Out of those two - Seville definitely. Florence is cold and damp in winter and there's nothing for little kids. You go to Florence to visit museums and churches. No 3-year-old would enjoy that.

Seville is wonderful , we went in October without our 6 year old as we thought it would be boring for her walking around and she would be bored but we Couldn't have been more wrong and wish we had taken her ! So much to see and do they are very child friendly and the square is beautiful lots of space for running around x

Seville. Low 20's when we went one New Year. One of my very favourite cities.

WashableVelvet · 02/01/2024 18:52

We’ve enjoyed both those cities with that age kids! Enjoy.

@theotherfossilsister What is the name of the square that has playgrounds please

theotherfossilsister · 24/02/2024 15:02

Ah I'm sorry, I don't know. It's really central though. Lots of bars and restaurants and playgrounds

Hello, can I ask if you went to Seville? We go next month and wondered if you had any good recommendations for young children? Thanks
