Spanish strikes - are we likely to be affected?

I am not a frequent flyer by any means, we are more of a camping family and we last took a flight in 2019, but we have a trip to Barcelona booked for next weekend and I have just read that Iberia ground staff are striking. We are flying from Heathrow with BA, I have phoned them and the lady said that everything is running as planned at the moment (without bothering to ask me where we are flying from or for our flight numbers or anything). We have decided not to check in any baggage to avoid any delays there but are we likely to be severely delayed/not be going at all, has anyone had any similar experience? I’m an anxious flyer anyway but I was really looking forward to escaping this rain!

In defence of the individual you spoke to at BA the airline probably is planning to operate normally, the call centre staff rarely have much more insight than what comes out of head office, which for today was probably "we are planning to work normally to all destinations".

I don't know whether BA use Iberia staff or subbies at Barca but from what I've read Iberia are planning to run over 70% of their usual services over the strike period so they obviously think some staff will be working in the terminals, so hopefully you'd be OK, but I do think avoiding checked baggage is a wise move...

I guess things will firm up later in the week, good luck.

Thanks. I was feeling a bit better until I saw that every single BA flight to Barcelona has disappeared from the booking page and I can no longer see the seating plan for the return flight (our seats have already been allocated for the outward journey, the flight is not even half full). Dh wonders if they’ve blocked out all of the flights to take Iberia passengers?

Bumping in case anyone else can help!

I suspect they have stopped taking additional passengers so they can amalgamate flights, deal with cancellations and with Iberia flights in mind

Hopefully! And hopefully if ours is one of the cancelled ones we get reasonable alternatives. This is reminding me why I hate flying!
