Anyone done a stargazing trip in Tenerife?

Are they worth it? Would kids aged 10 and 12 enjoy? And I have never been at altitude so how do I know whether I will get sick or not? Thanks. (Also anyone recommend a particular company)

We went about 5-6 years ago - went on a coach trip that included a meal and then up to Mount Teide with a guide who pointed our what we could see. My dc were 10 and 12 and thought it was amazing - as we got off the coach my 12yr old said it was like stepping into the sky. I'd definitely go again if I went back to Tenerife

We’ve done the same trip, we absolutely loved it, but take a warm jacket and a warm hat.

We didn't officially do one, but hired a car and drove up the mountain and used google maps to find a nice lay-by and watch the sunset.

The star gazing trip then joined us later and due to the size of the group were shouting across the whole lay-by so we did get to hear some of what they said - though didn't get to use the telescope obviously! It was extremely cold after the sun had gone down but the whole trip was completely doable in a hire car, the road was lovely to drive! Very new and wide!

That sounds interesting - do you remember the name of the company?

We didn't do an organised trip but we drove up late one night and the stars were honestly mindblowing! We were there for Christmas so didn't see the Milky Way but you can see it during the Summer apparently. None of us had any altitude sickness.

We did this on Christmas night. It's amazing, and Teide national Park at night is really other worldly. However, it is freezing. More freezing than you would think. My kids are older and loved it, and the guide was great. But there were kids who were 8ish on the same trip who were bored ( and told everyone very loudly!) It may just have been them though.

Night skies Tenerife was the company I looked at that joined us in the lay-by.

What we saved going the DIY version of the trip basically paid for the car hire for 3 days.

I think the lay-by was this one but it's hard to tell! TF-21, 38300 La Orotava, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

If you want to go star gazing in the Canary Islands I’d go to La Palma. There is so little light pollution that the skies are so clear all over the island.

We did one at Christmas that included a tour of the observatory. The tour was great, the star gazing a bit less so. The guides were great, but we spent a lot of
time queueing to look through telescopes that had been pre-set to look at various stars. I can’t remember the company but the star gazing was at the cablecar station.

And I agree, it was bloody freezing. We’d been up the volcano during the day and this was way, way colder.

I think with a smaller group the stargazing would be better, but the observatory trip was great and im not sure how else you can do this.

I think we went with Teide by Night. There are prob lots of different companies doing similar trips
