I've been learning Italian due to a recent trip to Venice. I'm going again in March.
i have fallen in love with the language, the food, plus all the Italians I know here in England 😂. So I want to start exploring more !
where would you put next on the list for half term holidays in May and October to Italian cities with an adventurous and quite sophisticated 14 yo that loves music, doesn't mind a few cultural sites, likes wandering around and will eat almost everything, especially fish. Must be from Gatwick

I loved Verona,more than Rome.

Florence is beautiful.

Florence is amazing at all times of year. Off season can be fab but also very cold. Stay up in the hills and bus down to do art galleries and churches.

Rome is great too. Don’t forget to see catacombs and St Paul’s Outside the Walls.

Fly to Pisa for Florence, Lucca and Tuscany. Either Pisa/Genoa for Cinqueterre, Portofino and coast. Milan for Lake Como and Maggiore. Bologna. Rome/Naples for Pompeii and Amalfi coast or Rome itself.

LIZS · 31/12/2023 12:15

Verona or Milan for Lake Garda.

Bologna is a gem, more interesting than Florence with a great choice of food (if you’re not veggie and like pork in all it’s guises). Florence is ok for a couple of days, why not do both? They’re only about an hour away from each other on the fast train (Frecciarossa or Italo).

otherwise Milan, but March is a bit hit and miss weather wise. Last year it was unseasonably warm, then got cooler again, but some years it’s rained non stop for 3 weeks.

We’ve flown to Naples and Verona from Gatwick, both very easy flights. You could do a couple of places by train or day trips out from a main base. Verona was a nice city to wander around.

Turin, Rome, Florence, Bologna, & Milan are all accessible from Gatwick. They are all fantastic places!

Finallybreathe · 31/12/2023 13:19

Oh and Venice!

Oh and Venice!

I've already started that love affair 😂
I suspect many trips will be made in the future, I just adored it. Can wait til we go in March, we aren't doing any of the sights just spending 5 days getting lost in the Calle and eating/drinking and riding the vaporetto. Dh is going to love it too (I went with Dd in October)
im angling for a summer holiday in July on Lido
