what is the best place to sit on a plane with a toddler on your lap?

any advice?
it just occurred to me that we can't sit near the exits, and my whole flight had been planned on letting him run loose in that bit.
so where else is a good place? can we let wander about (supervised of course) anywhere?

ratbunny - children are entertaining themselves so I am going to do another hour this morning and then that should be it!

Feel poorly still but not as bad as yesterday so I lurch from panic to thinking that I will survive with linen trousers, 2 t shirts and a pashmina!

Meeting a friend for coffee this afternoon so have a deadline which helps!

Poor your DH looks like a couple of Sainsburys bags for him then

Ah well you think you have priority but in reality the business men all think they have priority and will still stand right in front of the desk. Sharpen the elbows and make like a euro mum, barge to the front with a look of disgust at all the silly little people queueing, queueing what on earths that coming through bump bump!!!

Nah serioulsy I flew for the first time with easy jet last month and was impressed by the way they organised the queue and actually weeded out the ones who didn't have priority, sent them to the back of the right queue like naughty school boys.

Ryan air is not too bad in the UK but coming back was a free for all, then if you have to get a bus to the plane all bets are off. Me and my now exH went to either side of the bus as we didn't know which side we would pull up on and garbbed a child each and barged like a good euro parent would.

SKy+ is already set for the Colour of Magic ! I'm not sure about the guy playing Twoflower, but its just that in my mind he's short, bald and round.

The trouble is that you have to stand in the queue for aaages to be at the front, so much better to get DH to stand - my friend who flys a lot with her (13,7, and 1 yr old)kids told me this tip, and she makes the 13 yr old queue.

You also want to minimise the sitting still in your seat time, as theres usually quite a bit of waiting on the plane if you get on first.

Agree with Scramble about the businessmen - I do fly a lot for work (and before DS a huge amount), and I remember being 32 weeks pg and being barged into at the airport - and no one even offered to get my bag down.

good idea about making only dh queue. he is crap at pushing his way to the front though, too polite! But i dont care and at 4'11" find a lot of people make way for some reason!

well, I have had a violent sickness bug and ds is vomiting too, so I'm not even sure we will make it on holiday at this rate

Ratbunny, if you are flying easyjet you'll get priority boarding.

Here's a trick: Get on the plane, sit down and plonk ds in the seat next to you - between you and dh. Then wait for everyone else to get on board. If the plane is not completely full, NO ONE will want to sit in a row of three that includes a toddler! And you'll get an extra seat for him to crawl around on. Go for the first row on the left as you get on, if you can.
