Just back from our trip. We had a great time and had glorious weather.
Sarajevo: A really interesting city with a mix of architecture. Lots of mosques and Turkish influences mixed with Austro-Hungarian buildings. It is hard to believe there was a terrible war and siege of the city that lasted 1425 days only 30 years ago. 11,000 people were killed in the city of Sarajevo. It was the anniversary whilst we were there, so there was lots of going on in the city that made our visit very moving.
The train journey (£6) to Mostar took 2 hours and was absolutely stunning. Beautiful mountains, lakes and villages all the way.
Mostar was wonderful. Such a beautiful city to wander and admire the views. We loved the walking tour, watching the bridge jumpers and enjoying coffee and batlava. Mostar had a different pace and was so chilled. Our photos of the Old Bridge at night are stunning.
Our journey to Split was long and twisty (4 hours). The city again was beautiful, warm and with an interesting history. We loved the marina and hiking in the hills. The ice cream at Emilio's was the best I have ever tasted. Can recommend the greek yogurt mango and passion fruit flavour! The evening street music in the old town was wonderful and atmospheric.
Zagreb made a nice end to our trip. We enjoyed the city tour, the market, parks and the 'museum of broken relationships'. Evenings in the city had such a lovely atmosphere.
All 4 places felt very safe and welcoming. Bosnia was very cheap with meals costing about £5. Split was the most expensive with an evening meal being £20+. I would recommend all the places we visited. 2 days was enough in each but could have stayed in Split longer!
