Is Lapland worth it? Or....?

I love the idea of Lapland next winter - the possibility of northern lights, snow fun, Santa magic for DC. But, breaking it down, is it really that much more than a ski holiday? Or should we be thinking about something else entirely if we want to blow the holiday budget on just one trip? Any advice from people who've had fabulous trips.this winter??

It wasn't rushed at all, quite the opposite.

Hence how I can't understand how people spend three or four days there, when they seem to have done exactly the same things we did in a day.

What activities did you do and how long did you spend doing each one?
When I went the flight alone was about four hours each way.

So our flights were supposed to be 3hrs but in real time were closer to 2.5hrs.

From memory, we did ride on reindeer drawn Sleigh, husky sledding, snowmobiling, through the woodlands lit with lanterns to have personal meeting with Santa, interspersed with tobogganing, snowman building, general playing in the snow.

Lunch was reindeer meatballs....hmmm.

I guess each planned activity was around an hour which was plenty. Especially the skidoos which killed my wrists, huge bits of kits they are.

It was a super day.

I got married at kakslauttenen igloo village. It was amazing. We had 4 nights in Helsinki on the way home. We went in February tho as it's cheaper, Santa IS on holiday in Spain then so it's not Christmassy in that respect but amazing. We had a log cabin with private sauna and ice hole and one night in a snow igloo. They also had glass igloos where you can see the northern lights from your bed.
