Costa Adeje, Tenerife for kids/families

Ladolcevita233 · 26/12/2023 21:50

Does anyone have any experience of taking kids (6-9) to Costa Adeje?

I've tried trip advisor and nothing is jumping out (accommodation wise) for kids.

Likewise the things to do with kids seem to be two water parks, one jungle park/zoo, beaches and not much else.

Are there many of the bar/restaurants you get in family resorts with trampolines/bouncy castles etc. there?

Many thanks 🙏

We stayed at the Jacaranda in 2019 with two under eight. They loved the six swimming pools and the kid's evening entertainment.

We visited Siam Park, they were a bit small for most of the rides but enjoyed the pools and the lazy river.

We explored the beaches and shops along the promenade and had a couple of nice meals out. I remember the 'cow' shop being a big hit, they spent their holiday money on stationery mostly.

Our usual holidays are spent exploring in the UK, so we were all happy to have a more relaxed break, enjoying the warmth and going in the sea without needing wetsuits.

Will look out for the cow shop!

We loved monkey park. Only a 2/3hr thing but could feed the animals and stroke them which dd and I loved

We stayed at GF victoria this year and it was fab but my dc are older. There is lots to do in hotel. You might be better off at the baia principle fantasia which is AI but not in adeje.

The kids pool where they put floats plus the waterpark is lots of fun. The so called teen club was wall to wall 6 year old at night.

The area has lots of restaurants where kids are welcome but no play areas. The restaurants are expensive for no better quality. I found playa de Las Americas and playa fanabe better priced food for identical quality. La caleta is a lovely area for restaurants further up the coast 10 mins taxi from the victoria and walkable if you don't mind longer walk.

The isobel is nearer to siam park and a long walk from the victoria. You'd be better off at same place as family surely

Listentogold · 30/12/2023 09:47

Son and family stayed in the 'la pinta' hotel.
So much entertainment for children.
Lovely beach. Shallow enough for the children to swim.
Free bus to siam park. Long walks.

Costa Adeje is still very much underdeveloped. I would go to the Canary Islands instead.

OP, I think you're researching in the wrong places. Tenerife is great for people of all ages. The main resort area in the South of the Island comprises of Costa Adeje, Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. You can walk for miles along the sea front that links these resorts. There are other smaller, quieter resorts, but although generally cheaper, they are further away from the main attractions.
Monkey park and Jungle park are good. Siam Park is an amazing water park, I haven't been to the other one so can't comment. Also good is Castillo San Miguel, which is a medieval night show that very much encourages audience participation.
Along the sea front of the main resorts there are playparks, trampoline parks, mini golf etc. There are lots of shops and shopping centres offering a wide variety, not just the usual souvenir shops.
There are plenty of boat trips, the usual water-based activities, cable car trip up Mount Tiede, tours of the volcanic scenery of the national park, parascending from the mountains, trike tours, etc.
On top of that many of the hotels have daytime entertainment, kids clubs and activities, and sports activities.
In short, if you can't find something to do in Tenerife with kids of those ages, you're doing it wrong!

That doesn't make sense. Costa Adeje is part of the main resort area in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands.

Ls pinta is on my list!

I just need to see if I can get child place through any of the package providers.

(We're in NI and there are much more limited options than the mainland, cousins are going from Northern England).

Eh, last time I looked Tenerife was most definitely one of the Canary Islands

It keeps popping up, but I'm aiming to be in Adeje or PDLA at a push. At least then we can walk (with scooter!) or bus to meet up.

Have you mixed it up with somewhere with a similar name Attila?

Yes I have

We took our 8 and 10 year olds recently and they loved it.
We stayed at the Iberostar Anthelia which is right in the headland near the ‘posher part’ by the beach and has several pools and a little kids area with crèche and kids club.
Tenerife itself is ‘ok’. It’s not pretty as such and the beaches are black sand (it is a volcano after all!) but there’s definitely plenty to keep the DC occupied.
Pools/beach.
Trampolines on the prom.
Loro Parque.
A trip up Mount Teide in a cable car (worth it for the Martian landscape alone).
Siam Park.
Siam shopping centre & food court.
A day trip to the capital city.

It keeps popping up too (Anthelia), I'll have to focus on the package providers now.

Do they not dump piles of Saharan sand over their beaches?

Is the cable car doable if you're not great with heights? We all panicked on a ferris wheel lol.

Edited

It’s not a cheap option but it’s a fantastic hotel. The inter connecting rooms were a big win too.

I don’t know about the sand dumping but in Adeje it’s definitely black sand. Playa del Duque around the headland (the ‘posh’ bit lol) is better sand and possibly that is sand from the Sahara as they’re man-made beaches.

Ha ha then maybe the cable car isn’t for you. It is damn high. The top of Teide is the highest point in all of Europe, and if I recall correctly it’s about 4000m which isn’t far off half the height of Everest! I remember feeling some altitude sickness up there. The experience is amazing though. The views are incredible. And you feel like you’re on another planet as the landscape is so weird and beautiful.

You have to either drive or get a coach trip up to the cable car. We hired a car for the day. I’d highly recommend even just heading up to the ‘base camp/cable car station’ as that in itself is a great experience. My DC loved seeing the volcanic landscape and Teide from a close distance. There is a couple of cafes up there too so you can stop, get out and have a bit of walk around. Really unusual experience and educational too!

Ok, the cable car's definitely out lol.

Your base idea is still worth thinking about though.

I had no idea Tenerife has Europe's highest point, pretty ironic though given its off Africa.

You're right, Everest is a bit over 8000, there are 14 or so in the world over 8000, all in the Himalayas, I think.

The black sand sounds painful (!)

Just stayed at Bahia sunlight Costa Adeje, pretty good, multiple pools, what looked like a good kids programme, very multi national in crowd, plenty of Spanish but rest from across northern Europe. Ai, shuttle bus to playa des Americas is r public bus from 5 mins away. Multiple restaurants so doesn't feel like having the same buffet 3 x a day.

Tenerife has so many attractions and restaurants and prices are very reasonable so self catering may be a good alternative. Most bars seem to accept kids though as I wasn't travelling with any I wasn't looking for any facilities for them. There is a water park and zoo advertised everywhere too. There's some lovely beach bars too, worth seeing if they have kids facilities

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 30/12/2023 15:18

And there are nice beaches too, not just black ones

HighlandCowbag · 30/12/2023 18:56

Los cris doesn't have black sand, is all man made beaches that end. The black sand is fine. The costa adeje end is actually really pretty. North tenerife is much blacker.

Evenmoretired44 · 30/12/2023 19:01

Tenerife isn’t great. Very built up. If you go however do go to Siam Park which is awesome and go on a dolphin watching trip. It’s really fun spotting the whales and dolphins and they stop and let you swim off the boat which is great.

Louisa4987 · 30/12/2023 19:18

We stayed at the GF Isabel and it was lovely would definitely go back! Aqualand is worth going to just for the dolphins!

The only negative for us about the Isabel was the steep hill back from the beach but it's doable and my kids are younger than yoursGrin

wineandmaltesershappyme · 30/12/2023 19:23

We last went when she was 3 and had a great time. Now 7 and just booked for May at the Iberostar Bouganville Playa. Stayed at a couple of Iberostars in the past they are great for kids, good food, great kids club.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/12/2023 19:50

Teide is amazing. Been up it every year and cable car a few times to the top

If windy day they won't run it

The views are amazing. But also take a coat /jumper as at the top it's cold. Very cold

Which is weird as at the bottom it can be 30/40* month depending and sweating
