Me, DH, 2 DC (12 and 9). Wanting Bangkok and beaches really. Happy to travel by train a couple of times or take internal flights. Going end of March and have 2 weeks.

Looking for inspiration so please tell me tales of your past trips (accommodation recommendations welcome!). We were last in Thailand 20 years ago so it’s all a bit hazy!

I did a 2 week trip a few years ago now.

2 nights Bangkok, then flew to Chiang Mai for 3 nights Songkran and to visit an Elephant rescue centre.

We then flew to Koh Samui for 2 nights and did a jungle safari and visited some temples.

We took a boat to Koh Tao for 3 nights and spent some time exploring, relaxing, scuba diving.

We then took a minibus ride over to Krabi and did the usual touristy things over that side of Thailand.

We did a cookery class whilst there too which was really fun.

Similar to ms. Instead of doing tao tho I did phangan as wasn’t keen on diving and it was more difficult to move in the island

Maybe split a week on the mainland between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Use internal flights. Stay in old Bangkok and do the main temple and palace sights.

You can fly internally down to Phuket. Chose your beach carefully depending on how commercialised you prefer. Phuket has some tacky resorts but it's a stunning island with great boat trips. I'd recommend a street food walking tour in old Phuket too.

Thanks all. Not sure about heading north, so may just head to the islands / Krabi and we would probably want something a little more off the beaten track than Phuket. But have to remember we’ve only got 2 weeks, with 2 kids, and that we’re not 20-something backpackers anymore!!

If you do internal flights with Asia Air preorder meals - it is the best plane food I’ve ever had. We flew Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Hua Hin. I know MN hates museums but we really enjoyed the National Museum in Bangkok as well as everything mentioned by PPs. The food courts in the big malls are great for a bewildering choice of food. We did the elephant sanctuary and a cooking lesson in Chiang Mai (it’s a bit cooler there as well which was nice).

We were there last summer and Chiang Mai was a massive hit with DS12, especially the trips to the sticky waterfall and elephant sanctuary.
We also had 6 nights diving in Koh Tao, and three nights in Bangkok.

We did the overnight train from Bangkok to Chaing Mai - quite an experience! Not exactly luxury travel but if you’re an adventurous family it’s a good way of getting around. We did then fly from Chaing Mai down to Krabi.

We're in Thailand at present but for 6 weeks.

Would suggest going to Chang Mai and Chang Rai if you like temples, but they are having a heatwave at the moment 40+c with health warnings.

A couple of days in Bangkok then to Krabi for the beaches/Islands you could then bus Upto kho samui.

Or if your looking for paradise then boat to kho lipe. Was there last year and love it
