December in Seville.... Wow!

I have just got back from a pre-Christmas break to Seville... wow, what a place!!

It was buzzing with amazing sights, stunning Christmas lights, traditional music and great food.

It felt incredibly safe, clean and very reasonably priced (beer and wine E2 a glass in a tapas bar next to the cathedral, tapas E4 a plate).

We stayed in a great Airbnb next to the cathedral. The city was very walkable and had gorgeous orange trees everywhere.

We did a free walking tour (Guru walks - Best of Seville walk)
Plaza de Espana (free)
Real Alcazar palace E13.50
The Cathedral and tower E11
The Mushroom (must see at daytime and night as it is all lit up) Setas de Sevilla
Triana area
Santa Cruz (Jewish quarter) what a place to wander round and get lost in
The river cruise

The Christmas lights were amazing throughout the city. The atmosphere as you walked around in the evening was magical.

I would definitely recommend Seville as a pre-Christmas break.

Just to add that we walked everywhere and did 28k steps one day. It’s all very flat and we’re used to walking but the bike hire gave our feet a rest on one day!
Do eat in the little side street bars- much cheaper and more authentic. €4 a tapa and two beers or wines for €4 in most places.

Looks and sounds great. Tempted for 2025 with my kids.

Thanks.

Sounds fab OP - did you manage to get cheap flights?

Aslockton · 26/02/2024 20:11

Yes, we actually flew into Faro, Portugal. Had 2 nights there, then got the Flix bus (for 9 euros) over to Seville (2 hours) for 4 days. Flight to Faro was £20 and the flight back from Seville was £40 on 22nd Dec.

You can tell I like Skyscanner's 'Stansted to everywhere' function!

We also had a brief visit to Seville last week - on train from Malaga with a one night stop over - we will also be back again!

I'm planning a trip to Seville in early May followed by Cordoba, Malaga and Ronda.

Squeeze in Granada - it's amazing too.

ohtowinthelottery · 26/02/2024 22:15

@AmaryllisChorus I've been to Granada before when on holiday in Nerja.

So glad this thread appeared back in 'active'. I've booked to go for an 8 day trip in April - starting in Seville, onto Granada and finishing in Cordoba.

This is all good intel. Skiiing is also supposed to be good in Sierra Nevada, not far from Granada.

@EllaPaella just wondering why you did the cities in that order....I'm doing the same 3 very soon & need to plan our trip. Thanks

Hi @NCnora We flew into Seville from Gatwick (I couldn't find a direct flight to Granada at that time) then got a bus to Granada and then train to Cordoba. Cordoba wasn't far on the train to get back to Seville to fly home so it made sense to do it in that order.
We had a wonderful time but if I were to do it again (and hopefully will) then I would actually skip Cordoba completely and spend longer in Seville and Granada. Cordoba was pretty and interesting but very very crowded and touristy. Train and bus travel was very straightforward and quite reasonable but I would recommend booking train tickets in advance during busy seasons.
