Recommended a holiday for me

I would like to try somewhere new next summer. I would like somewhere warm (mid 20s ideally), a hotel/apartment with half board. Nice food with lots of choice for all the family. Full board if food is good. I would like beautiful grounds and very close to a promenade a walk along seafront. I am NOT looking for somewhere busy with lots of bars and nightlife. So main priorities - calm pretty grounds, beside nice seafront walk and good food. Does this place exist?

Somewhere in Cornwall?

boomtickhouse · 19/12/2023 16:20

I don't think such a place exists!

Mid 20s is actually quite hard to achieve. Northern Europe (incl UK) or mountain areas in Europe could be mid 20s - but could also be heatwave or rainy and a bit chilly. Mediterranean area will be 30+.

Canaries may be your best bet weather wise but I’m not a fan personally. The Ritz Carlton Abama or Bahia Duque on Tenerife might fit the bill.

If you’re ok with more of a risk weather wise then take a look at Du Lac et Du Parc on Lake Garda - not the sea but there are still beaches.

I would also recommend a look at the area round Ile de Re, La Rochelle, Royan, Chatelaillon-Plage. Not as hot as the south but lovely food, beaches, quiet atmosphere. I don’t know any hotels there though but sure there are plenty.

minipie · 19/12/2023 16:28

Lake Geneva or Annecy also worth a look

I was going to suggest west coast of France, self catering is more common than hotels though - look at La baule or La Rochelle. If you have dc, the Pierre et vacances website is your best bet for accommodation.

For hotels, the canaries are an option. Less promenades there but an option we stayed at that fits some of your criteria at least is magic life fuerentura, 5 onsite restaurants included, lovely beach along side (no roads but steps down), ai, nice grounds, bus stops outside to go to local town, zoo etc. and package from regional airports making it very simple for families. There was kids activities but we didn't have any with us, there's adult activities too, we learnt archery!

Thanks for all the ideas. The weather is not the most essential thing, up to 30 degrees would be fine, I know it's not controllable.
I have been to the west coast of France a lot and love it there but looking for a change.
Maybe it's a unicorn!

Seaside los Jameos in Lanzarote may fit the bill. Nicely manicured gardens, excellent food and you are directly on the promenade to walk up and down beside the beach.
It's not very lively as only a few bars and restaurants within walking distance.

Puerto Pollensa in Majorca? I’ve been researching it for weeks, and finally booked it today. It might fit what you’re looking for.

The hotels that I see recommended and with 4+ Tripadvisor stars are the Puerto Azul suite hotel, the concha (?) and the Mar hotel and spa.

We’ve had some lovely holidays similar to what you’re describing in Portugal, too. Let me have a think!

JamieKnows · 22/12/2023 17:02

Madeira?

Would love to hear any Portugal recommendations.

If you can live without a beach then Madeira is perfect for this. Hotel area in Funchal on the promenade with a good walk into the town. Great restaurants and scenery. Plenty of hotels in the area have lovely grounds - i really like the Porto Mare or Eden Mar hotels. The Pestana hotels have lovely grounds and views too, but I preferred the ambience of the other two.

Twilightstarbright · 24/12/2023 16:03

Pine cliffs in Portugal had pretty grounds.

Mercurial123 · 24/12/2023 16:26

Haven't been for years, but Lido di Jesolo was nice and easy to get to Venice for day trips.

Alvor in Portugal is lovely. Boardwalk along seafront for miles and also takes you through the dunes and wetlands off road to the very pretty little town. Various hotels by beach (mainly from the Pestana brand) which is long and spacious plus there is a smaller hidden one you can get to through the rock formations. Restaurants plentiful around beach and in town.

I would recommend Vietnam or Singapore these two destination are worth visiting!

I really enjoyed how clean and efficient Singapore was. The metro made it easy to get around and see lots of sights. The food is delicious - I still think about hawker center meals and chicken rice. I appreciated the green spaces like Gardens by the Bay that provided breaks. Be sure to check out Marina Bay Sands for amazing views. It is more expensive than other Asian destinations, so budget for that. But you really won't regret spending a few days in efficient, vibrant Singapore. You could check this blog I found online that helps me planned my trip so you will know why is it worth visiting https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-singapore-statistics-2023-the-ultimate-guide-5549
Vietnam's natural scenery like Ha Long Bay and Sapa were breathtaking. The food was some of the best I've had and very affordable too like pho and banh mi. I found the culture interesting experiencing daily life outside cities - people were very welcoming. but you can also check this blog also, https://www.incredibleasiajourneys.com/travel-blog/top-10-best-places-to-visit-in-vietnam.html

Anyway, those are just my quick thoughts! Hope it helps in your decision. You really can't go wrong with either of those two countries!

I found Portugal pretty calm. Lots of nice relaxing beaches I went in September and it wasn't very busy. There's lots of nice places OP. Croatia looks good for adults!

Lincslady53 · 26/12/2023 19:17

Have a look at the Valamar Isabella in Porec, Croatia. It is on an island in the harbour. The hotel runs a shuttle boat service. The hotel has a main building, but also, more exclusive, villas, at one end of the island. https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/europe/croatia/croatia-istrian-riviera/porec/hotels/valamar-collection-isabella-island-resort.html?utm_medium=paidsearch&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkKqsBhC3ARIsAEEjuJgcWHUqoeIyrym5pWOUUynNLOgYb16ygDbzeGW7eE2CM2BIm8svTPsaAkm-EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

The Savoy Palace in Funchal, Madeira is gorgeous and within easy walking distance of the prom and marina/seafront. Highly recommend.

Busybee91 · 26/12/2023 20:33

Hotel Ariston, Croatia or nearby hotels. Based in Lapad and has a beautiful boardwalk. Great hotel with fab grounds. We had a sea view. Near lapad or bus straight through to Dubrovnik.
