I want to do a tour with my partner in the spring in Puglia, does any body have any ideas/experince of the area for a 5 day tour?

We recently spent a week in Lecce, which is incredibly beautiful and interesting (in the walled old town). However, if I were touring various places over 5 days I would want to visit some places like Locororotondo, Alberobello and others in that area. Lecce is further south, and to be honest I wouldn’t recommend the seaside places nearby. The countryside is very scorched and dry, so isn’t worth just a drive around IMO, it’s all about finding the right destination!
I would probably do 2 nights in Lecce then back up to the Trulli house towns.

I'm sorry, I can't hear the word Puglia-it's a lovely place, and Lecce is glorious-without hearing Rob Beckett saying he couldn't take his children there because they would lapse into giggles every time someone said Poo-glia......🤗

We went to the Salento area several years in a row when the children were beach lovers. Stayed self catering in Torre Lapillo, Torre San Giovanni, Pescoluse.
They’ve now become extremely popular in the Summer and travelling by car (even by motorway) can be frustratingly slow as the roads aren’t made for so much traffic. We’ve stopped going now as the dog couldn’t take such a long journey.
But it’s a great place, amazing food and lovely people.
We always booked through www.costedelsud.it

Watching with interest as I want to go too.

My parents have a place in Ceglie, beautiful area. Ostuni is a great place to visit as well as Lecce and of course Alberobello.
Do you know where your main base will be or are you planning on a couple of days at each site?

Norathesnorer · 04/01/2024 10:25

We are thinking to be based in the Centro Historico area of Lecce.

I've just booked 10 days in Monopoli to use as a base to visit other towns. I originally was going to split between Lecce and there but DH preferred to stay in one place. Trains and buses should make it reasonably easy, though wondering whether to hire a car for a few days.

Norathesnorer · 04/01/2024 11:51

I'm thinking to hire a car, that way it is possilbe to be more flexible with what you see. Car hire is quite cheap in the area.

I live in Puglia.
And against the grain I'd stay on the Gargano if I wanted one centre only and do day trips to the rest.
The Salento is where locals holiday and people from the north, the Gargano meanwhile gets Germans and tourists who are driving down.
Monopoli and Galipoli have become very trendy and THE places all our teenagers go for beach/clubbing holidays.

The spring will be fine and not too packed with locals though.

June and July will be ferociously hot.

We stayed in the Centro Storico in Lecce, and also had a hire car. You’ll need to find suitable parking outside the historic city walls. This is a handy free spot: Parcheggio di Via V. Genuino

We also used this multi-storey a couple of times: https://www.parkejoo.com/dove-siamo/
