Good holiday for older teenagers

I'm looking to book a family holiday for a week next July. It's a celebration of sorts and also I feel like it might be our last holiday all together as oldest DC is turning 19 soon.
Options we are looking at include a cruise in the Med, a week in an Ikos type hotel (not sure which one) or maybe a trip to New York. Or something else that I havent thought of yet!! We haven't done any of these before.
Wish list is nice accommodation, good food, lots of activities for 3 teenagers, some form of nightlife, nothing wild but would like to go out a few nights.
Budget 10,000 euro max, would prefer less if possible.
Would love any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks all!

Our teen loved cruising. I’d go for NCL or Royal Caribbean in your situation. Meals are included. A drinks package removes all the bother. If you use an agent you can usually get a discount and / or some credit to spend on board. Don’t go with Marella.

Sorry OP, I haven’t done this holiday yet; still aspiring to that one!

LA. Our almost 18 year old (at the time) loved it. So did we so we're all going back in 2025. Stay in West Hollywood

What about looking at Mark Warner or sunsail holidays?

You can do some days on plenty, plenty of water and dry land sports.

Yachts - unsure why my iPad decided to say p,entry twice instead 🤦‍♀️😂

I noticed you mentioned Ikos type holiday in the OP?
I love Ikos but think it they would be too sedate for teens.
Is Costa Rica out of the question?
Loads for young people wildlife zip wires etc

Such amazing ideas there...would love to do lots of them! We are restricted to one week away due to social events at home either side of our window to holiday so long haul is not appealing for that duration.
Costa Rica looks absolutely amazing and is most definitely on my bucket list for a longer trip!
I actually rang a travel agent today as was getting bamboozled with options so I'm hoping she might make some good suggestions and make my decision easier.
Thanks everyone for commenting, I really appreciate the ideas. Merry Christmas all 🎄😁

I did a Marella cruise when DC were late teens. It was a huge success.
I hate formality and rules so avoided the big cruise names. Marella was spot on, no compulsory dressing up, no tipping to worry about. We all enjoyed the food, entertainment and days out. A cruise was a brilliant way to get a taste of some cities with all inclusive hotel at the end of the day.
We went on to do two more before DC left home.
One time we did a week Med cruise plus a week in a hotel. Another we did the Adriatic.

We used to live and work in NYC, too hot in summer. When we visit we go in the autumn or early spring

Didn’t think cruises were that great for kids or teens.

My son LOVED them. Well, still does!
The freedom the roam within the ship, the food and drink, the friends made, the port days with us (hopefully).

Depending on the ship, they are great for kids and teens! Smaller ships might be a bit dull for teens, but the bigger NCL or RCL ships are great for teenagers.
We've been on three with teenagers, and they loved them all. They didn't even make it to the teen club, as there was so much to do (and they're not a fan of holiday kids clubs).

New York in July is very hot. But we did that with Long Island trip. Like the canaries pick an island with a bit to do or where you can walk. Or a hotel with good pools and animation. All inclusive keeps cost down. Also recommend La Manga Club. Get a villa, lots of restaurants nearby seaside, tennis tuition and cycling.

Rugby and Safari trip to South Africa, rugby package deal.

Villa with own pool close enough to walk to resort then budget for lots of eating out.

We did a villa holiday with early 20s DCs (and respective partners) last year. They loved having their own pool. The villa was big enough to mean we weren't cramped at all.

South of France so we drove down with one DC & partner. Other DC & partner flew down.

Self catering because that is what we find relaxing - croissants for breakfast, deli lunch, ate out in the evenings separately or together as tge mood took us.

Probably my best holiday.

We find France is great for teens especially if they are sporty/active. My DS loved the go ape type of thing that he spent all day doing, kayaking, snorkelling, swimming in the sea and DS had wind surfing lessons. We also all played patagne, lazed around on different beaches, climbed up and over a huge aquaduct went to markets, glass blowing, walked around beautiful lakes, an outdoor art exhibition, medieval fayre, shopping and ate out somewhere different every day. We finished up with a trip to Paris on the train and up the Eiffel tower. Plus if you stay in a villa or jite you can come and go as you please.

tokesqueen · 22/12/2023 17:56

We've been all over and our teens loved Iceland the most (we went quad biking and all the usual touristy stuff). Maybe not what you had in mind though.

gotomomo · 22/12/2023 17:57

Just got back from Marella and it's pretty good as far as the ai, we had the basic option but they can help themselves to the buffet, fountain drinks in the bar etc included (not cans) and every stop was accessible to public transport so no need for expensive trips in ports (most we could walk from the ship). We did cruise &stay so the hotel was in Costa Adeje, wouldn't suggest for teenagers but magic life (6 locations) has sports etc so more suitable

gotomomo · 22/12/2023 18:00

Oh and lots of teenage dc on my Marella trip, lots of young adults with parents too. Yes there's older folk but to be honest by 10pm they had gone to bed and it was a great atmosphere, ents staff mixing with guests was fun too. Different ship, voyager is new to their fleet
