Hi everyone. Planning a 4 day trip to Co Kerry, Ireland in early March next year. Any recommendations for must-sees would be appreciated (we are not hugely sporty people, but love hiking). Also restaurants & hotels as well. TIA

My favourite hotels would be Ballygarry (just outside Tralee), the Killarney Park or Killarney Great Southern, and the Europe. Caherdaniel is also beautiful. You’ll need a car.

Definitely prepare for rain! For such a short trip I would avoid Killarney and head for the Dingle peninsula. Dingle itself is a fabulous town and the scenery is wilder and more beautiful than the Ring of Kerry. The Skelligs and Skellig Michael tour are amazing (Star Wars location) but may not be running in March. It will be pretty quiet - tourist season doesn’t really kick off until Easter.

Ring of Kerry, you can drive or cycle it.
Derrynane beach is beautiful.
Skellig Islands.
Mount Brandon is a great hike with stunning views.

Thank you for your suggestions. My mum was from Trailer, so that is definitely where we plan on spending some time. And taking our car over x

Thank you. Have heard that Skellig Michael is amazing but boats probably not running as off season.

I did this on horseback many years ago. Incredible place. The best holiday I have ever had.

To get to Skelligs there are boats from Portmagee on the Iveragh Peninsula (the next peninsula South of Dingle). Even if the boats to Skellig are not operating, on its own it's a charming spot with a causeway over to Valentia Island which is beautiful. Then the car ferry from Knightstown to Caherciveen and back up to Tralee. It is kind of the road less travelled in comparison with the Ring of Kerry. Just a suggestion. There is a quaint little hotel in Knightstown on Valentia just by the ferry, the Royal. Wild and wonderful place with a fascinating history.

The distances are huge, where are you flying into? Just check the journey times for the places you want to see in the time that you have.

The Blasket boats won’t be running yet either. Walk the old Kenmare-Killarney road (now a track through the mountains). Climb Carrauntoohil. I would also base myself in or near Dingle, probably. The whole Dingle peninsula is lovely. Brandon is a nice climb.
