We were planning to go to Bristol zoo tomorrow for dd's birthday(2), but have heard it's going to rain, does anyone know whether this would be a nightmare, or is there plenty to do undercover?

Or has anyone got any suggestions for alternative days out suitable for 2 year old and 10 month old, not to far from Marlborough/Swindon. Thanks!

Thanks everyone, I think the aquarium is in bristol zoo, so we might give it a go anyway! Any more suggestions though would be great!

Bristol Zoo is ok in the rain, there are indoor bits, but it is quite expensive if you're not a member, so might be better to go on a fine day! Swindon TRAIN is good, near the outlet village. But maybe not very girly.

wildwalk @bristol
@bristol is great , but they may be too young for it.
wherabouts are you in wiltshire if you don't mind

tortoiseSHELL · 14/03/2008 14:53

Wildwalk alas is shut, otherwise it would have been good.

We went to Bristol Zoo last weekend, and although it was raining a bit, that was no problem as most of the animals were under cover.
Under 3's are free, so it isn't too bad pricewise.

DS was delighted with Steam at Swindon, but that may not be to your DDs taste !

hazeyjane · 14/03/2008 15:11

We are in Marlborough, and have only just moved here, so don't really know what there is in the area.

Dd loves trains, but it looked as though there was work going on at the railway in Swindon until the 16th, so we weren't sure about that. Is 'Steam' a museum or is there more to it?

Has anyone been to the farm place in Cholderton?

Don't go to Bowood, it doesn't reopen until 19th March.

Bristol Zoo has quite a lot of inside stuff. The aquarium bit has a brilliant tunnel where you walk through the seal enclousre and they swim above you.

Butterfly world at Studley Grange (near Swindon) theres also a small soft play area there.

It is also Lambing weekend at Lackham Country Park this weekend which look lovely -- but not much good in the rain probably!

Thanks for all your suggestions, just to let you know, we went to bristol zoo in the end, and it tipped down! But it was fantastic and dd loved it. We avoided the cafe at lunchtime because everyone said it would be chaos, so we had lunch in Ikea before we wnet, which was a big success.

that's good and glad someone knew bowood not open yet, if you'd gone there on my say so it would not have been good.
