Hey,

We are driving to France next weekend - staying in Arras for one night. Going to the Christmas market which i hope is there!

Does anyone have any other recommendations to add to our itinerary? Places to also visit there or on the way, somewhere to eat or a hypermarket to go to (to stock up on Christmas goodies)!?!

We are leaving early Saturday and back late Sunday. Welcome any suggestions!!

Thanks 😊

I don’t know anything about Arras however I can recommend Vieux Mimolette a very hard, dark orange cheese which is lovely with a glass of red wine.

If you’re buying Christmas presents 🎁 most shops will ask if you want a “pacquet cadeau”. Ie do you want it wrapped for free! It’s brilliant!

Buy packs of duck confit legs (they’re around €12 for two). They have a very long sell by date (2025). Great roasted with potatoes etc. I also made a lovely duck ragu this week for pasta. Use the fat they come packed in for your Christmas roast potatoes; freeze the rest.

Nuxe skincare products are much cheaper. Their pots of gold oil make great gifts. The coffrets already in shops are good value, especially bought at the larger hypermarkets like Carrefour.

If you're interested in WW1 there are some preserved trenches at the Vimy Ridge memorial near Arras - we took our dc their some years ago and it made quite an impression; the opposing sides were so close to one another.

Funnily enough, we're going to Arras next weekend to - hopefully- visit the Christmas market as well. I was a bit spooked by your OP - wondered for a second if I'd written it and then forgotten!

We are going to Arras between Christmas and NY, we really like it there and the xmas market it amazing, I remember have quite a few mulled ciders with a shot of Calvados 😁. I live near the eurotunnel so travel to France whenever I can, I'm actually going next week too to Citeurope. There are some lovely restaurants in Arras and also old town Calais for the way home if you would like any recommendations, enjoy!

I bought these in Carrefour, when I google how to cook it says 36 hours in a water bath?!!! Can I just bung the lot in a casserole dish? 😁

Not sure which ones you bought. The confit legs I buy only need 20 mins in the oven or pan, as they’ve been cooked already (the confit).
