Camping in the Dordogne

I'm looking for recommendations for campsites in the Dordogne which are good for small children. We will be taking our own tent so clean sanitary block is important. We'd like to do a mix of days out and days on the site so a pool and playparks are a bonus and somewhere in a lovely area to explore. Has anyone been somewhere that they'd recommend?

Eden Villages La Bouquerie was fantastic but I don’t have experience of the sanitary block as we stayed in a static. All the public areas that we saw were clean and well maintained.

Les Peneyrals near Sarlat. Great pool complex, nice restaurant and a good mix of entertainment. Loads to see nearby.

Camping Port de Limeuil was absolutely perfect for us last year and sounds just what you're looking for. One of the nicest campsites I've ever been to.

I had looked at Peneyrals as we've stayed with sandaya before and found them good sites. Do you know if the sanitary blocks were well maintained? I'll take a look at eden villages and port de Limeuil now. Thank you! I got so overwhelmed last night trying to find somewhere as there's so many to choose from.

We stayed at Domaine des Mathevies near Sarlat about 12 years ago when DS was 3. It's a naice, boutique site with play area, pool and a barn converted into a cafe which is a lovely place to hang out in the evening.

Two things I recall especially: it's quite small and was not busy in June so really relaxed and lots of freedom for children. DS befriended a little girl from the neighbouring Dutch family and liked to join them for breakfast outside their tent.

The other thing was that it was a bit of a drive to the supermarche, maybe it's just us but it always turned into a bit of a day long mission to buy groceries.

Oh yes, and it rained in June. But that's why the Dordogne is so green and lush.

They did amazing takeaway frites, we used to collect them in a saucepan and take back to our tent.

When are you going? We went in August a few years ago and it rained heavily or there were thunderstorms every afternoon/early evening. Not fun in a tent.

Mid July hopefully. That's such a shame about the weather but I guess you were unlucky or is that typical for the summer there?

One of the best recommendations I have had in mumsnet was camping here

Les valades. We camped in our own tent. The campsite is amazing, there is a pool
and massive lake with free kayaks and a big trampoline in the lake. The drive was a bit of a pain but we had one stop overnight. It was a few years ago now. The area is great. We also had a day trip kayaking down the dordogne. Visited some very strange caves and museums. The towns had great food festivals, where you take your own plates and cutlery and all
Sit together in the town square. Lovely holiday memories

I think that's fairly typical for August so you maybe ok in July.

It was several years ago, but we loved this place le-paradis-campsite.com/

Like a previous poster, we have also stayed at Domaine des Mathevies, this was about 8 years ago when my daughter was about 2. We had a lovely time, but it is pretty quiet in terms of entertainment, no pool slides, etc. But very gorgeous site!

More recently we have stayed at Yelloh Village Lascaux Vacances, which is also close to Sarlat and some other beautiful towns/villages. We stayed in a mobile home, so can’t really comment on the tent pitches, other than to say that what I saw looked well spread apart and the sanitation blocks seemed well looked after. Pool complex was excellent and lots to do around the site.

Totally agree with this we had a great time. Might be fully booked by now though?

The Moulin de Paulhiac campsite in Daglan. It's a family-friendly campsite with a very warm welcome and well-maintained facilities. It is located by the river with a beautiful water park and slides. We chose this campsite because we have 2 children aged 6 and 9 and were looking for a campsite with other children of the same age. We enjoyed our stay very much for the tranquility, entertainment, pool, river, nearby visits, cleanliness, and the friendliness of the owners.

Le Paradis vote from me. It just won French Campsite of the Year. Loved it.
I'd say stay closer to Saint Leon Sur Vezere over Sarlat. And do the caves. First session of the day. Amazing
