I now know I cant take my 'own' drinks through security, but I can buy drinks and take them on board after passing through security.

Does this also apply to food/snacks? Im growning more anxious by the second, these stupid rules! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

You can bring your own snacks, but (depending on where you're going and what they are) you may not be able to take them off the plane at the far end so be prepared to eat them all. For example fruit may be counted as an agricultural product and subject to import restrictions at some destinations.

Ooo I need to know this too - what about ds's milk?

Scramble · 12/03/2008 15:27

We have taken sandwiches on but they were bought in the cafe after the security check.

I think biscuits, crisps, sweets and chocolate are Ok, not sure a bout fresh food and I don't think they will let you take on cold meat, dairy products.

Scramble · 12/03/2008 15:27

baby milk is fine, you may be asked to taste it in front of them.

Wolfgirl · 12/03/2008 15:30

OK, security link for Gatwick which should explain about your milk geordiemacminx But in a nutshell, you can take formula/milk, but have to declare it straight away to security.

Here

But I cant find anywhere about taking your own sandwiches / snacks.

scramble Yes, I think that is right, you can buy food in say... Boots, or other food outlet and I think you can then take it on board, but it is not very clear at all. Another question then, can you actually eat your snacks on the airplane? DOH! so many questions, and not enough info.

We were flying with ryanair, the cafe in departures asked if we wanted a bag so we could carry it on board.

I don't think anyairline would be too keen on you opening up a picnic basket and having lunch ala MrBean, but if it is snacks to keep a child amused I don't see a problem, I think I could have mucnhed away on crisps or what ever with easyjet or BA (flown with them recently and they wouldn't have bothered, TBH they are too busy getting the drinks run done to be bothered.

geordiemacminx · 12/03/2008 15:34

thanks for that WG

Wolfgirl · 12/03/2008 15:37

OK, just been on the phone to Monarch cust. services.

You have to buy ALL liquid drinks the other side of security

You CAN take your own food through security and eat it on the plane LOL

there! sorted. phew.

I have pre-booked meals on the flight, so their noses shouldnt be too far out of joint, but youre right scramble, having some snacks available to keep LO's amused / quiet is a must. She said I could even take sarnies. so Im much happier now.

portandlemon is right about food. You can buy drinks to take, but diff airlines have different rules. You can't take any liquids on most US flights, even those bought after security.

Wolfgirl · 12/03/2008 15:37

thanks ladies. xx

Pleased you can take food - we have opted out of in-flight meals - £40 for 2 of us

Wolfgirl · 12/03/2008 18:21

Lanzaroe with first choice - yeah I thought it was a little steep too - flying at 9am so will get some breakie in the airport and take snacks for the plane...

Wolfgirl · 12/03/2008 19:07

is it for one meal or twomeals on the plane? I would ring first choice and ask what you are getting for £10 each, in your meal.

If you plan to take smoothies (eg, Ella's Organic Red Ones) or Frube type yoghurts make sure you put them in the clear plastic ziplock bag - security then treat them like toiletries - as long as they are less that 100 ml they are fine (I have not had any problems taking them through)
