Recommendations for Ireland holidays

Hoping to get some ideas as we're thinking of going to Ireland next year on holiday.

My (very rough) idea at the moment is to either do a week somewhere on the west coast as I've heard that's nice OR to do a couple of days in Dublin or Belfast, then to drive out for 5 days/a week on the west coast.

Open to any & all suggestions. My DC will be 10 & 12. Not fixed on the west coast either - any ideas to kick off my googling would be much appreciated!

If you're interested in the West Coast, start by googling the Wild Atlantic Way for lots of ideas.

What sort of things are you all interested in?

Connemara National Park is absolutely spectacular. You have gorgeous white sand beaches and stunning mountains. Some lovely resorts to choose from aswell. We also stayed in Galway and Westport then had a couple of nights at the Titanic Hotel in Belfast. It was one of our best-ever holidays!

We like music, mooching round historical sites &/or animal parks, etc. Also like walking - as long as it's easy to moderate, nothing too extreme!

Big foodies too!

I did a tour of Ireland last year. We did Dublin, Belfast then the ring of Kerry-Killarney etc

Fota Zoo, near Cork city is a lovely day out. Check out the English Market in the city - it's gorgeous. Close to Cobh - last stop of the Titanic.
Kinsale is less than half an hour from Cork - lovely walks around interesting Forts, fabulous places to eat. West Cork is really lovely as well. Killarney and Kerry fab. Weather not great so be prepared for that. And not cheap!

Donegal - best beaches, surfing, good food esp seafood, Glenveagh National Park and trad sessions.

Was coming on to suggest this. Absolutely fantastic. Rossknowlagh beach, you can park on the beach. Famine pots in random roadside locations and tucked out of the way. So much to see and do. And almost no tourists because they're all on coaches circling the Ring of Kerry.

West cork is wonderful.

Thank you for the suggestions! Really appreciate the pointers as I'd say down today to research and got a bit outfaced!

I'd recommend Donegal too and take a trip to Tory island. Beautiful beaches and walking.

Elisebev · 13/11/2023 19:45

If you go to Belfast, do not miss the titanic museum

Westport to Clifden via Louisburgh or the Sheefry Hills and Leenane, then from Clifden to Galway for your urban fix.

That's the trip I'd do.
