Rome in November

Hello, It's my first time visiting Rome in November, and I'm really looking forward to it . I would like to ask if anyone has been in November and could advise on what to wear ? I've checked the weather map APP, and it's showing 18c at the moment . Should I be taking a big coat and boots or a lightweight rain jacket with trainers for all the walking we will be doing . Thank you in advance .

Sorry can't help with November but have been in Rome at beginning of October and was in the mid 20's.
November should be the perfect temp as it's very much a walking city.
Would advise a hoody and maybe something warm for the evening.

FlorencenotRatchet · 08/11/2023 21:36

Oh and definitely trainers. So many cobbles any other footwear your feet will not thank you!

I went to Rome in November about 10 years ago, I wore jeans and trainers and a nice but not too heavy coat, and took a brolly ( which I needed). I found that people in Rome were much smarter than in London or Paris so if you are bothered about what you look like, an anorak won't cut it. A trench- style raincoat might work, maybe with a thin jumper underneath and a scarf in case. I think the evenings were quite chilly.

We went to Rome in November and it absolutely pissed it down the whole time. Like soak you through to your knickers, hit the pavement and bounce straight back up into your face rain. Take a raincoat and solid shoes!

AnnaMagnani · 08/11/2023 21:47

Trainers with the thickest soles you can possibly find to cope with the cobbles.

My experience was that a good 90%+ of the people we saw were other tourists who had prioritised dressing for the weather and comfort.

Actual Romans were very smart, and the women could walk in heels on the cobbles, but nobody expected to you look remotely like that.

Thank you for your quick replies and advice . Trainers will be a must and a raincoat . I did Google the weather, and you are quite right about the rain as it is their rainy season . Thank you. 😊

I went in November a couple of years ago (almost to the day actually!). I wore jeans, long top, hoodie and then a wool coat. It absolutely hammered down with rain a couple of times! I wish I'd taken a second pair of shoes as my shoes got soaked on day one. I had to bin them at the end of the trip!

Yes we went to Rome in November a few years ago- it was freezing! Hat and scarf weather, definitely take your winter clothes. It’s a beautiful city though- enjoy your trip op ☺️

We went at the very end of Oct pre covid. It was lovely, because we didn't need to pre-book museums that are packed in the summer, and crowds were much less. I 'think' I wore jeans or trousers most days with some layers. T-shirt, cardigan and a light jacket. If outside then going into a museum/restaurants, you want to be able to add and remove layers. I recall scarves were available at lots of stalls and smaller shops if you do get chilly.

I'm going to be there the last week of November and am expecting it to be getting colder.probably take a thick rain jacket and boots.

I went to Rome in January and it was great. Around 11oC i think. It was really really quiet. The Sistine chapel was empty. (Don't bother it's underwhelming. No screaming required)
Do a Segway tour. And the Scavi tour is excellent.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/11/2023 22:40

I was amazed by the umbrella sellers that just appear at the slightest drop of rain.

@blueberry40 Thank you 😊

I'm really looking forward to it. We are staying near the Collesium. I've been told that the unknown soldier is something of a must, too ! We plan to visit The Vatican City, so it should be a great trip. Thank you all for your really good advice .

We went last November (next week) and the first day the rain was bouncing but then the next it was roasting during the day but really cold at night so def layer up. The coliseum needs booked if you want to go inside. The Vatican had a gigantic queue but actually only took about 20 min. Stop for gelato at least twice a day! If you pass the sandwich shops that have the big subs I highly recommend you stop because they were the best things I ate the whole time we were there😂 I'm very jealous, have a fantastic time!!

@onemoretine Thank you 😊
