The Seychelles

Has anyone been? We’re looking at going as a couple. Won’t stay anywhere posh but will self cater. Flights are cheapish, £580.

Thinking it will feel like an unspoiled Caribbean? We’d like to go to one of the smaller islands too.

I was there in March, we stayed in an Airbnb in Anse Royal which is a beautiful area but then it's all beautiful. White sand beaches are everywhere and you'll often have them all to yourself. Water was incredibly warm and clear in March. You definitely need a car to get around.

We did a couple day passes to 5 star hotels just to get that experience of lying by a pool and having fancy cocktails brought to us, that was great value but in general self catering suits us best with a toddler. Food selection in supermarkets isn't the best and very expensive. Everything is frozen because it's all imported, for example sausages, rashers, most meat. We couldn't find fresh milk anywhere, thank God our one year old was happy to drink the long life stuff because he is milk obsessed.

Seychelles are very quiet compared to anywhere that I've been in the Caribbean, it doesn't really have any kind of a beach bar scene. I kind of missed being able to stop in to beach side bars for breakfast or a few drinks while walking along the beach. Definitely not a place to go for shopping either. It's an amazing hiking destination if you're in to that, the scenery is out of this world.

We went about 5 years ago now. I agree that it's a lot quieter than any Caribbean island I've visited. It was incredibly expensive due to import costs and to be honest, I found the staff in the hotel quite snooty! Not many bars or cafes but hotel or resort based. Certainly not as relaxed, laid back and easy going as the Caribbean. Beautiful beaches, lush interior but I was slightly disappointed.

Went in Feb with my almost 2 year old
We did the Coral Strand on the main island and then self catering in La Digue
Absolutely amazing holiday

It was lovely, but very expensive. I’d do Maldives instead (expensive, but better service)

I've been 5 years ago for my honeymoon. It was lovely. We stayed at a 5* posh resort.
