Ryanair seating

user1471543683 · 02/11/2023 18:06

I usually fly Easyjet but where I want to go next year is only covered by Ryan Air. Unless I buy seats then I understand I’d be allocated just before flying. What would the likelihood be of being near my 14 year old daughter? Adding on paid seats is an extra £120+ which is a lot considering it’s just for a few nights.

None as far as I can gather

Icefoot · 02/11/2023 18:11

It's highly unlikey, but I wouldn't pay the money. We're happy to sit separately with our books for a while.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/11/2023 18:28

Gosh that is expensive . We are flying Ryanair later this week and paid for particular seats - but it cost nothing like that .

Hopealong · 02/11/2023 18:33

I fly with Ryanair frequently, choosing your seat is nothing like that cost. It would only get near that cost if you were moving they type of fair to one that included more luggage allowance

ButterMyParsnip · 02/11/2023 18:37

It seems like they deliberately split people up when I fly. What's the cost of emergency exit seats? Last time I flew they were only a little bit more than choosing a normal seat. £40 each way and was 100% worth the expense. I'm 5ft2 and my knees touch the seat in normal rows but in the middle emergency exit row I could put my legs straight out.

averylongtimeago · 02/11/2023 18:43

It's normally only a few pounds to book a seat, unless you want to add several extra suitcases.

If you don't book it, you won't be seated together.

BrontëParsonage · 02/11/2023 18:43

@user1471543683 only slightly facetious but I would pay Ryan Air good money to be separated from my teen for the duration of a flight. (And danger money to the poor buggers who might have to endure sitting next to her instead.) I feel sure that the fact that you want to go on holiday with her means that your teen is 100pc more pleasant than mine.

Lol me too.

Seriously though OP you will probably be split up. Can your 14 yo old manage?

My kids would be fine with it. (15 and 11)

Kitkat1523 · 02/11/2023 18:51

Depends how badly you want to sit together…..if you not fussed then go for it…..but odds will be you will be separate

arlequin · 02/11/2023 18:52

You don't need to go for "plus" or anything like that, just add on the seats to the basic fare at the end. Should be way cheaper

arlequin · 02/11/2023 18:53

Just booked a flight and was £8 per seat

KnottyKnitting · 02/11/2023 18:56

I always leave it until the very last minute to check in as find they are less likely to give you middle seats and also sometimes the more expensive seats that people don't want to pay for are left and allocated to random selection passengers.

But be assured they will seat you at opposite ends of the plane. If you want to sit together then you have to pay.

Easy jet don't do this. If there are seats together then they will seat you together. But Ryan air are cheap so you get what you pay for! 🤷‍♀️

Apologies I realise I’ve read it wrong. this is what I thought I’d have to do but just realised I do the basic option then select the seats. They are coming in at £10 per seat. Annoyingly the seats have went up in price since Monday. Now £76 more expensive!!!

They'll definitely split you up. If you need to sit together you'll have to pay extra.

user1471543683 · 02/11/2023 19:04

thanks for the replies. I wondered if I’m intending to fly beginning of April are the prices likely to keep rising (so I’d be better buying now) or will they be cheaper later on. I’ve always flown with EasyJet and managed to get good deals. This is my first time with Ryanair.

I'm flying with Ryanair end of the month so keeping an eye on the seat reservations availablity. It's just me a DP so I don't want to pay and don't mind being split up. The prices have stayed the same since we booked a few months ago. Cheapest seats are £8 to reserve (almost all gone now) and raise to £20 and £40.

ladeluge · 02/11/2023 20:00

If you only pay for the basic fare, and then add on seats, I think that might mean that you can only bring an underseat small bag.

I don't mind being corrected.

Yes that’s true.
the bundle which includes a cabin bag (quite generous) plus a seat is usually best value

or add a seat and carry on luggage

basic plus a seat is only really suitable for day trips or perhaps one night tops

wtf are you packing!!! We manage 3 to 4 days worth of stuff. And yes we change everyday.

In summer maybe but in winter?
I recently sized up my quite small wheely suitcase hoping it would fit under Ryanair’s small bag rules and it was way over.

Yes. In winter too.

RyanAir's underseat bag is much smaller than EasyJet. I've done 5 nights with an underseat bag on EasyJet but the RyanAir allowance really is only a handbag.

StillWantingADog · 02/11/2023 20:13

I just double checked and the basic (free) bag size for ryanair is
40x20x25cm

@RedToothBrush really?? Unless you’re literally taking beach ware only, I struggle to believe it. Kudos to you if you manage.

Genuinely. Literally about to board a flight with that much!

StillWantingADog · 02/11/2023 20:19

@RedToothBrush impressed - good for you but I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that 40x20x25cm for a few nights away is pushing it.
