Summer in the lakes and mountains

Would love to hear about your summer holidays in the lakes and mountains of Europe. Looking for an inexpensive holiday for 2 adults and 1 teenager, open to any European country and any type of accommodation.
Would love somewhere that we can swim in lakes/pools and have cable cars to access the mountains. Will need somewhere that has good public transport or lots to do close by, as to keep costs down we won't hire a car. Delicious local food would be a bonus Smile

For those who went to Slovenia, where do do stay? As in a hotel or self accommodation? Would love to go but don't have loads of time to plan and like staying in hotels more recently Blush

We stayed in Hotel Bohinj, in a B&B in Bled (The old vicarage, or something like that), Slamic B&B in Ljubliana and Hotel Piran (in Piran!). Hotel Bohinj was a real treat, but worth it - it was lovely. It had a huge firepit in the garden, so you could sit out there with a drink in the evening, a lovely spa, food was good and staff were lovely. The rooms were great too.

The other places were all really nice too - I'd go back to them all quite happily!

Annecy fits your requirements.

Third vote for Achensee in Austria. Well connected by public transport to Munich and Innsbruck airports and stations. Cable cars and loads of walking, a lake with beaches with water sports hire available. Some good campsites and cheap hotels. Lots to do in the area.

Lake Garda has loads to see and do - would recommend.

Also Annecy, cycling round the lake, swimming, paddle boards etc etc. Easy to get to Geneva from there too.
