Food to take for Great Wall of China trek please

Hi there, in May I am trekking along the Great Wall of China for my local breast cancer unit. I have been told the food is pretty awful. Apparently quite often breakfast is boiled cabbage and noodles. Mmmmmm. Can't wait.

Can anyone recommend food I can take with me that will keep. Suggestions so far are cereal bars and nuts/raisins in bags. I thought I could take some Tupperware with some apples inas they'll last. Need to take healthy stuff rather than too much chocolate and junk.

The food will be fine.

Breakfast will be something rice-porridgey. Take sugar if you must.

You don't want to bog yourself down with food for your trek and seem to set yourself apart from the rest of the group and your hosts.

Beware of what you can and can't take into a forrin country - fruit and veg are often a no no.

HAve a great trip!

Hiya best of luck with your trek.

I haven't done anything so energetic but from several holidays to China I found it was worth taking some boiled sweets - great for sugar and energy if you have an upset stomach. Maybe some energy bars would be a useful standby.

Hope it goes well.

HI there I was in Beijing a couple of years ago, did not trek along the wall just did a daytrip up but the food was lovely.
We never had brekky there, stayed in nice hotel so prob had western brekky.
Only issue I had was the stalls which had all the things to eat.. creepy crawlies alive until fried yuk! The smells were lovely.. adn the Peking duck with its head still on...never really been the same since!
Well done on going for it, good luck and enjoy. PS been on lonely planet site, they may have ideas

Thanks for the tips, I'll Google Lonely Planet. There are no hotels on the way, we'll be staying in local houses. Very basic.

Be very prepared for the public loos - tho' if you're doing the whole wall I suspect you've thought beyond that. Public loos in Xian are (or were, 20 odd years ago) half doors. Everyone can see if you're up for a number 1 or a number 2.

Food - if your baggage allows it, take stuff that won't go off. You'll be craving the odd disgestive biscuit, penguin bars, whatever floats your boat!

What a fantastic thing to do!

We've been told that public toilets are not cleaned! That people will stare at us etc so it will be an experience. I'm not used to going to the loo in front of others so that should be interesting.

Last year most people lost a stone so perhaps I shouldn't pack too many digestives!
