Just left teaching this year and child free so wanting to make the most of some winter sun in January/February hopefully! Doesn’t have to be scorching but just more daylight than here/light Jacket weather would be lovely! Never done a January/February holiday before so looking for recommendations (I usually get overwhelmed with choice and don’t book anywhere!!) We are a couple in our early 30s and love an old town to explore, and lots of good restaurants/cafes to try, previous fave holidays have been Nice, France and Chania, Greece , and we’d be direct flying from Newcastle preferably!

are you looking for a city break or a longer holiday. If longer you would be better going further afield to Asia, South America, Africa or Australia/New Zealand for better weather. if you fly klm you could go from Newcastle and change in Amsterdam. Otherwise could change in London.

February is a good time for Athens. I’d say that the temperature is similar to average April temperature in London. It’s not too crowded and if you like old towns you’ll love Plaka.

Miami and Key West. California. Mexico. Caribbean. Lots of choice of islands. Cypress maybe? Also India and Egypt if it’s safe. Kenya or South Africa.

Madeira or Seville would be good.

You're limited with 'old town' type stuff in the Canaries, but there is more to do than lay in the sun and drink, eg Lanzarote has the Volcano national park, vineyards, caves, Cesar Manrique arty stuff, cactus garden as well as watersports so could definitely fill a week if you've never been before.

Have a look on Jet2holidays or city breaks but you won't be able to fly to Seville from Newcastle, not sure about Madeira.

Malaga would also be good and you'd almost certainly be able to fly there from Newcastle.

I would go to Malaga if sticking to Europe.

If you do, find a place in the old town, well away from the main roads or it can feel like you're holidaying in any Western small city. There's loads to do and see on foot in the old town and by the sea, but it's still mainland Spain so the weather could go either way (pouring rain or 20deg) at that time of year.

Marrakesh will be nice, pretty dry and sunny at that time of year and an exciting city to explore
