Any tips for tiny toddlers' sleeping arrangements?

We're going to a chalet for a week in Easter. According to the bumph there's no room for a travel cot in the bedrooms. Any hints on where to put the baby? (aged 13 months)

We thought we might take the mattress off a bed and put the travelcot on the top of that. Anyone tried this? Does it work?

I'm not sure how that would work...can't picture it.
What about a ready bed?
Or baby in with you?

bodiddly · 09/03/2008 20:18

doesn't sound very stable! how about flipping one of the beds up on its side against the wall and put he travel cot in the space left?

Thomcat · 09/03/2008 20:18

In the bath.
Put a duvet and sheet over that in bath and bob's your uncle.

posieflump · 09/03/2008 20:18

why would you book somewhere where there isn't enough room for a cot unless you are co-sleeping?

hairtwiddler · 09/03/2008 20:22

Ah now I see what your idea is.... very much depends on the base of the bed. I wouldn't do it tbh.
It must be tiny if no room for a travel cot!

specialmagiclady · 09/03/2008 22:13

HT - ready beds are for 2 year olds, and he'll only just be 1 so not sure that will work. Also, not even sure if there will be a bath!

Thomcat - I've spent the odd night in the bath myself and yowch my back!

It's a free holiday, which is why we're going. In the end, we'll find a way once we're there, I'm sure. But if anyone has experience of such things advice greatfully received.

bumping for you

Would there be room for this anywhere? It could be squeezed into a really small space as it can be squashed in any direction.

I wouldn't dare leave a 1 year old (mobile, inquisitive...) in the bath. Or is it just me? Co-sleep - it's the only sane thing, or just roll something up on the floor next to your bed?

nobodysfool · 10/03/2008 15:32

Not just you monkey bird, the thought of it also sent a shiver up my spine also.Maybe we just have VERY mobile tots?
What about the taps?

Thomcat · 10/03/2008 22:05

Oops, missed that we were talking about a 13 month old, sorry. No I wouldn't leave a 13 month old in bath either!!!!

Co-sleep. Much better idea.

Readybeds are only recommended from 2 yrs and over. We have a littlearc travel cot, slightly smaller than a normal travel cot so that might be an option.

Can you phone them up, see what they can do. Is there a spare bedroom or living room as its a chalet there may well be somewhere that a cot can go. Although probably not the bath, although I'm sure I have heard that mentioned as an idea before.

I certainly wouldn't be cosleeping with a 13mth old on holiday unless it was something they were used to, can't imagine it working very well if thats the first time.

when we went to france last year the boys room was a twin, we could have (just) squeezed the travel cot it.

I stood the bed up on end (behind the chest of drawers so it couldn't fall over) which looked odd but gave us the room.

MadamePlatypus · 10/03/2008 22:15

We took DS on holiday when he was 9 months old. We moved a bed (can't remember where to - obviously would have to be somewhere where wouldn't fall on curious toddler) and he slept on the mattress.

specialmagiclady · 11/03/2008 22:39

Thanks all - some good ideas there which we'll look into. I've actually been to the chalet before but not in about 20 years, or more. If necessary will put him in buggy between his bed-time and ours and then pop him in our bed with us.

I'm glad the bath idea's been nixed!

We stayed in a caravan - apparently we were meant to put the travel cot in the tiny living area - not much good when we wanted to watch tv etc at night and dd needed to sleep. We upended one of the beds in the twin room - but it was too unstable. So we ended up doing all kinds of complicated manouevres with beds at different times of the day. In the day we put the bed on our double bed. In the night we put it in the living room. We had to wedge it in case dd came out of her room in the night and somehow knocked it onto herself. It was a real pita. If the rooms had been a tiny bit bigger it would have fitted in the bedroom. No idea what we would have done if there had been 2 other dc in the twin room as it was intended to be a caravan for a family of 4 plus babe in cot.

Haven btw - never again.
