We’ve done Rome, Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Salzburg. We want to do a long weekend in February and want to fly. Total budget around £1000 for 2 of us. We’re not interested in war museums. It needs to be somewhere that isn’t hilly. Where would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

I’m doing a joint Ghent and Bruges trip shortly. So can’t really recommend them yet as might be rubbish but they look beautiful.

I can confirm that both are beautiful and fantastic places to visit. Would definitely recommend. I’ve been to Bruges many times. It’s one of my favourite cities

Seville or Bruges

StuckintheUSA · 03/11/2023 20:53

Seville should be lovely in February.

We had a couple of days in La Rochelle and would have liked longer. You can have a day on the Ile de Re, and the rest in the city. It is small, but a cracking harbour with loads of restaurants. We fancy Athens this Feb. A day or two looking at the sites, and hopefully a ferry for a night on Hydra.

Annecy is lovely. Fly to Geneva then catch a train or coach.

I think if you are able to overcome some political prejudices Saint Petersburg is by far more interesting then Maastricht, Haarlem or Antwerp. I've been there a few years ago for a weekend and enjoyed it enormously, a true European cultural jewel.

I’m sure it is but you can’t actually fly there atm from Western Europe. At best it would be convoluted and expensive. And you couldn’t get insured.

International trains are also suspended.

And does anyone really want to support the economy of a country that has unleashed an entirely unprovoked war on its neighbour?

Annecy Will be expensive in feb as it’s ski season. My favourite European city is Stockholm but if you are foodies then look at Lyon (also expensive flights in feb due to skiing) or Bologna.

We've just been to Valencia, that seemed pretty flat, nice to walk around the old town, lovely buildings, park, bus down to arts & science centre and to beach .

Lizsmum · 15/11/2023 22:12

Avoid around Shrove Tuesday in Venice unless you absolutely LOVE crowds.
