Would love a bit of warmer weather late January/February but not interested in beach holidays (although by the sea is fine)

Could anyone suggest sonewhere

Warm but not hot
Interesting history/culture/food
Preferably not the other side of the world
Safe

Probably not more than a week

All ideas welcome

We always go to Cyprus - saturday flights which work nicely with half term, usually low 20's and quite a bit of history in the Paphos area

Possimpible · 25/10/2023 10:40

Lisbon, Valencia or Malta?

Alltheusernamesaretakennow · 25/10/2023 10:46

Cyprus, Madeira or Malta would be my choices

MsAnnFrope · 25/10/2023 14:21

I’d say Cyprus with the caveat that for lots to see id go to Paphos as it is closer to sights and mountains than the east side.

veiledsentiments · 25/10/2023 14:23

Cyprus is not always warm in February. I live in the Paphos district. It snowed on 13th March two years ago.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 25/10/2023 14:29

I always go to Florence in February. It’s cold! But it is also empty, you can go into any museum or gallery without queuing or being shouldered aside by people taking pictures on their phones ( and the sales are on). The food at that time of year is scrumptious, too.

itsmyp4rty · 25/10/2023 14:53

That time of year is Europe is very difficult, the canaries are probably your best bet. Lanzarote has quite a lot to see what with Timanfaya and all the Cesar Manrique stuff. The resorts are quite tacky but we stayed cheaply with Tui Blu at Flamingo beach which was really nice. Probably not exactly what you're looking for though.
Cyprus might not be warm, but Paphos has a couple of great sites. I'm not overly keen on the town itself though.
Really for decent warmth you probably need to go at least as far as Dubai, Oman etc as even places like Turkey or Morocco will be cold at that time.

We're going to New Orleans in Feb. Warm weather, great food, lots to see and do.

Marrakech should be relatively warm.

we went to Palma last Feb and it was 18/19 which was lovely compared to UK

We didn't feel very safe there.

@Houseplanter there is a lot more to see in Lanzarote than you might think. February won't be hot, but it will be warmer than here.

Yes this is a great suggestion. However you need to avoid Mardi Gras due to hellacious crowds and extreme expense at that time. February 13th next year.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 25/10/2023 17:01

Rome? I’ve been there in February, it was pleasant spring like weather, could sit out in the evening with a cosy cardi

Kweenbee · 25/10/2023 17:01

Grenada, Malta, or Crete.

Kweenbee · 25/10/2023 17:02

That's the town in Spain, the first one. My phone may have mangled the spelling.

DuranNotSpandeau · 25/10/2023 17:10

I went to Barcelona in Feb a few years ago. No idea if this is typical but it was about 18-20 degrees (which is warm enough for me!) and there was tons to do, parks, museums, walks, art and culture, great eating.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 25/10/2023 18:50

I’d love to go to Miami but hotels are ££££

I guess 75% of places will be hopefully warmer than U.K., just depends where you fancy.

agree with Granada, possibly Seville or Cordoba at the same time?

Turmerictolly · 25/10/2023 18:54

We went to Jordan in Feb half term a few years ago. Cheap Easy jet flights, amazing history. Petra, Wadi Rum in the desert, floating in the Dead Sea and mud baths and then finished with 3 days of suntanning on the Red Sea coast in a beautiful 5 star hotel that was £100 a night! We hired a car without any issues but there are security checkpoints at the main sights.

ladeluge · 25/10/2023 18:59

I echo the Rome suggestion above. Sun not guaranteed but you'll never be bored!

MissFritton65 · 25/10/2023 19:04

Vietnam and Cambodia probably a bit much for a week but stretch to 10 days and I don't think you'd find a better place!

Roselilly36 · 25/10/2023 19:10

Lanzarote, volcanoes, moon landscapes, geo thermal experiments, green lake, cactus garden, museums, low rise, wonderful climate. We visited many, many times in Feb half term, always has wonderful weather.

Delatron · 26/10/2023 15:40

I actually really like Lanzarote. The volcanic landscape is beautiful.

Marrakech should be pleasantly warm at that time of year. But chilly in the evenings/mornings.

Oman?

No European city will be warm or guaranteed sun. I went to Barcelona in April once at it was about 12 degrees! Seville would be your best best for Spain as it gets the most sunshine hours of any Spanish town.

@Bichette Egypt has been risky for a while (esp Cairo/Giza) but dyou think the conflict is Gaza will make terrorism in Egypt worse?

Bichette · 01/11/2023 08:00

I don't know how things will develop.
We went with an organised group so had a guide who accompanied us everywhere, even had an armed guard for some excursions.
I guess you can only keep an eye on the FO recommendations.
But, we had a fantastic holiday.
