jas i have a friend who knows virginia well. I'll ask her. Is it a permanent position. How old are your kids. Will you be working?

Hi jas,
I dont know exactly where the location is but my family and I just moved to woodbridge va (right near DC). As far as VA as a state I think its one of the most beautiful states to live in. Where I'm at its quite expensive but the further south you go it gets somewhat cheaper but not a whole lot.

Where exactly is your move going to be? Ive seen a lot of the northern part of VA and I think its really nice but soooooo busy. I came from TN and it was a change with so many more people. Overall its pretty nice. Were actually going back to TN because Ive decided I want to be near my parents and brother again. Were expecting our 4th. Good luck.

I was just looking at a map. Is it on the border South of Va. If it is its probally going to be gorgeous. They people really take pride in their state.

We spent a couple of months in Richmond, VA which is about 80 miles from Newport News, in 1997, when our DD was about 8mo.

My DH was working out there and we lived in an hotel for the entire time.

We loved VA - found the people very friendly and would have loved to have stayed there for a ocuple of years but it was not to be.

We went on a short trip to Virginia Beach and also had a day or two shopping at outlet malls in Williamsburg IIRC. We also had a trip out to the Blur Ridge Mountains but didn't get to see the Waltons place.

There seemed to be some racial tension - I came across some white people who had very negative attitudes towards black people and I found this difficult to deal with at times.

But, as I said, on the whole people were very friendly and the mums I met through Gymboree were fantastic. Richmond was going through a period of expansion with lots of companies re-locating from the north so new people were moving in and looking for friends - ideal really.

Thanks for the replies, I think I just needed to know it was an OK place, my husband has been offered a lucrative contract with a permanent position after 1 yr, I'm stressed as I have a very good job in UK but my qualifations are not recognised in USA so I have to consider whether I'm up to staying at home with the kids for a while (aged 7 months and 3 yrs)
