Hi all
were based in Uk and thinking of going for Christmas to NYC with our dd who will be 11 months.
I know getting around can be an issue with accessibility so we were thinking baby carrier and the subway etc rather than cabs and strollers.
can anyone give me any guidance please, do you think we are crazy?
Thanks so much

We went when our DD was a year and a half, used pushchair. It was no different to London, it was great

In NYC you can book Ubers with a car seat. Not sure if they are small enough for a 11 month old though but worth checking

if you go for baby carrier have you got one of those coats that you can do up over the carrier? It could be pretty cold. I found that much easier than trying to wrestle a child into a thick all in one.

You are right that NYC is generally pretty crap with a pushchair, no idea how wheelchair users manage. Curbs can also be massive and difficult to navigate. That said we used to take a yoyo though which is pretty easy to fold and carry up and down stairs for the subway. They napped a lot at that age with the jet lag so found the push chair super helpful for that. We could just stick them in a corner of a restaurant and crack on with lunch.

We lived in NY when our son was only a little bigger. We tended to swap between a lightweight foldable buggy (think Argos cheapie) and carrier, as you do a lot of walking a baby can get heavy. We switched to the carrier and carried the buggy for the subway, but like here, you can carry a baby on your lap in a yellow cab.

The biggest issue with Christmas is the temperature. Even when it's not forecast to be freezing, the windchills can be something else. DS lived in permaloft dungarees, ski jacket & hat. It was a bit of a faff constantly taking off for heated shops etc, but not really different to anywhere else.

Is you're not set on Christmas, I'd say NY is better with tots in late Spring/ early summer. There are lovely parks and waterfront walk and amazing splash pads etc dotted all over the place.

I totally get, though, that you may be trying to fit this in before they are mobile, and would say that as long as you are prepared for the cold, you'll be fine.
