Club med skiing recommendations

Hi there,
We stayed at club med Samoens last year and the concept worked really well for us but I have read reviews saying other Club Med resorts are much nicer. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not a massive fan of this type of hotel tbh, I much prefer something smaller but our kids are 3 and 4 so it's the only way we can really go skiing at the moment. I was v impressed with facilities and the whole set up but the rooms were very basic for the price and we had to take 3 lifts to get to our room and huge queues at meal times so I guess I'm asking are any of the other resorts a little smaller and a bit more luxurious? And is this a particularly busy resort? Thanks for any info/ advice

We went to Cervinia and that was good and certainly nicer than you describe, but I think it’s closed now. I’ve booked Sestriere for next season on the recommendation of a friend who has been there 3 times.

We used Esprit when kids were that age and Mark Warner. Usually a chalet hotel set up. I think their offering suffered during covid and Brexit, but worth a look.

Have you checked out ski famille instead? We found they worked out cheaper then club med and amazing childcare

@Scottishskifun do they offer ski lessons for the children or is it just chalet childcare? Thank you

@Applesaarenttheonlyfruit thank you I'll have a look. Club med do seem to have closed quite a few resorts. I always wanted to try the Avoriaz one

Can I ask what the location of the Samoans resort club med was like? We are thinking of booking here for this winter. Thanks

They have a 3 and 4 year old ski club in the morning which you can pay for then afternoon club. You pay extra for both or they have all day childcare for 4 and under.
It depends on your 3 year old though to if you want them to ski - DS1 was 4 when we went in March and tbh he was exhausted by ski lessons and struggled the first half of the week with stamina. We won't be putting DS2 into ski lessons til 4 as they are 2.5hrs long!

All chalets have hot tubs and they have a chalet hotel which has hot tubs for each room. It's not cheap but for certain weeks you can get deals and it worked out cheaper for us then club med when we costed it.

@woulducouldushouldu the location is great and we love the ski area. We have been coming to Samoens for many years pre kids. It has all the charm of a traditional French village but with excellent ski links to the grand massif area. That being said, the resort is at Samoens 1800 (ski in/ski out) so I think most people would stay in resort for the majority of their holiday. The resort connects easily with Flaine which is a fantastic skiing area and also with nearby Morillon and Les Carroz. It really is very nice but just a few things I wasn't so keen on. I guess it was a bit of an eye opener as we haven't been skiing in half term since I was a kid myself and obviously club med is peak kid destination! But that's also why it works for us

Thanks. We used to go Clubmed when the kids were little. They are now in their 20s and always promised to go back.

@woulducouldushouldu ah ok so you can go when it's a little quieter. They have really good entertainment on every night after dinner and a great happy hour session every afternoon. They also have a really good bbq with a dj on the same floor as the a la carte restaurant which I imagine youngsters would enjoy. There is also a mountain restaurant nearby to the resort which is nice for lunch and sometimes has a sax player and apres (only for an hour or so and doesn't impose any noise on the hotel)
