Raining in spain

Supermom24 · 11/10/2023 19:43

We have booked our first family holiday to pollenca Spain on Monday and looking at the weather forecast its supposed to rain the whole week 😫 I know weather in October can be unpredictable but we didn't want to go in the middle of the heatwave with 2 young babies so decided to wait until October but are gutted the weather is going to be that bad.
Has anyone ever been to pollenca and can recommend things to do on rainy days just so we can make the most of the holiday even if it isn't beach days etc like we imagined
Thank you

You'll be alright OP, the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain, not in Majorca.

True, but equally the water in Mallorca don’t taste like what it oughta.😉

We travel to Mallorca often. April and October can be rainy, but often it doesn’t long. We travelled there in May and it was rainy at times but didn’t last very long. Forecasts can change too.
There is lots to do there and you should be okay. It’s a gorgeous place- enjoy 😊

"Sure but you corrected the correct spelling as if Mallorca is wrong. Cringing for you!"

You can stop cringing @RowenaEllis because I didn't correct anyone's spelling. How awkward for you Confused

"So I googled and there seems to be a theory that the British tourist industry(?) invented "Majorca", because us silly Brits couldn't cope with LL sounding like a Y. But... J doesn't sound like a Y either, so why didn't they make it Mayorca?! Bizarre."

Google brings up lots of random stuff, blogs and the like, but it's actually Latin. It's the biggest Balearic island and the first part of the Latin word "Major" refers to that.

It really doesn't matter. You get snobby dickheads all over these threads, pulling people up, trying to upset the OP and make her think she'll have a shit time in Mallorca .

The reality is that she'll have a great time with seasonably better weather than you'd get in the UK and a nice change of scenery. Nobody will give a shit whether she calls it Majorca, Mallorca or anything else and keyboard warriors like @RowenaEllis will still be at home, "cringing" behind their screens 🤣

Every weather app i look at says something different! One told me it was going to be 100% rain all week and another a tiny bit of rain and then warm.. we will see next week 😆
I'll stick to the one that says the best weather 😃

OK, I just checked on my weather site (in Spain)

Next Wednesday 2 cms of rain and a storm. Otherwise a bit patchy/cloudy sometimes but 25 degrees all week. Sounds ideal TBH.

The rain will simply clear the humdity. It is very warm!

oohsharon · 12/10/2023 12:34

@Supermom24 100% rain doesn't mean it will rain 100% of the time 😅

Due to the microclimate in Mallorca/Majorca the weather can vary hugely. It can be raining in Puerto Pollensa but sunny inland in Pollensa (not sure which you’re staying at as some people seem to drop the puerto). Generally the west and north see more unsettled weather but it rarely rains all day at this time of year. Head to some of the caves if it’s raining or checkout the forecast in other parts of the island. Palma tends to be busy when it rains as everyone flocks there but the aquarium may suit you. Webcams can be more accurate than forecast apps or there are lots of Facebook groups where you can find out what is happening that day with weather and activities.

Supermom24 · 12/10/2023 14:03

I know but I can't check hourly weather until the day so I'm just saying what it says at the moment :)

If it helps with your optimism, when we went to Italy last year, I was also obsessively watching the weather reports (which were all different but mostly rain and even thunder) and the actual weather was frickin’ perfect for our entire stay. 🤷‍♀️

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/10/2023 19:30

Weather can change a lot from day today if you are looking at forecasts for next week - and they aren't always that accurate even when you are there .

I think in general weather can be a bit variable this time of year, more so in the north than around Palma. We went last week in September last year and had an amazing thunderstorm, a bit of rain and cloud, but also some lovely hot sunny days .

assertiveannie · 12/10/2023 19:36

We're off to Seville next week and every app I have states rain too :(

RSintes · 12/10/2023 19:37

@BarbaraWoodlouse and I wouldn't touch the beef in Ibiza neither 😂

fussychica · 14/10/2023 15:04

I'm in southern Spain at the moment. The Spanish forecaster AEMET said 85% chance of rain all day. So far we've had a spit about 11am, nothing more. Currently sun, some cloud, 27 degrees. As soon as it's not wall to wall sun I find most of the Apps are pretty unreliable.
Try not to worry, have a lovely holiday.

Supermom24 · 19/10/2023 06:32

We have been here since Monday and have had 10 minutes of rain since then and 30 degrees heat so definitely don't obsess over the weather forecast too much like I did x
