Flying with kids but not DH

I‘m a British passport holder and my DDs are Swiss. We live in Zurich.

We are flying to visit their grandparents next week. DH is not coming with us. We all have the same surname.

Will this be a problem at border control? Especially as we have different nationalities.

There could be separate passport queues. If they have their own passports I don’t see any issues but maybe check border/immigration regs where you are going. It might not be the same rules everywhere.

If there are separate queues I'd expect the children to be able to go in the appropriate queue for the parent. DH has an EU passport and he often just gets in the British passport queue with me, nobody has ever questioned it.

Might be worth having a letter from your DH and a photocopy of his passport with you. You probably won't need them but doesn't hurt.

Dh should write a letter. 99% of time you won't be asked anything, but was sure useful to have it the one time we were.

I have a different surname to my kids and have travelled far and wide with them- have only ever had an issue entering the U.K. when they were tiny babies/first time entering- where they asked me for proof this was my child and I just showed them a photo of their birth certificate on my phone and border control were more than happy with that. One time they asked DC who was 2 at the time, who I was and they had to confirm I was mum.

Forgot to say, most travel with the DC has happened without DH

Take a letter, copy of the birth certificate and a copy of his passport with you.

Normally you all go together through passport control as a family unit. I think in Heathrow at least Swiss and UK have the same queue anyway.
