British Airways- pay to book seats??

I'm travelling with my adult dd to Berlin with BA in a few days.

I just looked at my booking and it said you can choose to book seats now for a fee. But can book 24 hours before flights for free. I looked at this out of curiosity. It looks like a fair few have booked already but the fees look like £13 to £35 per seat per flight which looks ridiculous.

Anyway, what's left over if you don't book for a fee? Anyone with any experience?

If you dont mind sitting separately just wait. Pay zero.
You may get seats together or maybe not but as you both adults.....does it matter?

I wouldn't pay for Berlin if my DC are adults. It's such a short flight. You can choose seats a day or two before flights. You might get lucky.

For such a short flight I wouldn't bother but make sure you are there at the time when check in opens online.

DH and I have flown with BA three times in the past couple of months. As our tickets were purchased at the same time and we checked in at the same time, we were automatically assigned seats next to each other. I suppose on a very busy flight if there were no two seats together you’d just be assigned whatever was left, but I’ve never had that experience.

We flew BA recently and seats together were allocated on check in , which opened 24 hours ahead.

Thank you! I'm not bothered about sitting together; was just curious really!

Interesting to see how airlines do their charges. Having not flown for years I flew EasyJet earlier this year and their (and other budget airlines) fees are infamous.

Most of the airlines do this now even for long haul which seems a bit much when you've just paid £1k for a ticket. I just take my chances and we've always been allocated seats together.
