How many euros for Rome?

Going for 3 full days breakfast included in hotel - booked excursions and taxi transfers from and to airport already so it's mainly for food, drinks and travelling around.

We're staying outside of city centre so will need tram or taxi in to city.

Anyone got any suggestions of an amount per person per day? Tia

You can just take it out at the cash points when you are there and use your card in most places?

For me I'd take out about €250 for lunch stops wine, evening meals etc.

100 euros per person per day is what I would calculate for teenagers and adults. And that would be eating in trattoria, buying a few trinkets as souvenirs, using public transport etc.
Otherwise the sky’s the limit!

It expensive - I'd allow at least 150 euro a day per person to do it comfortably. Lunch can be 25/30 euro for a pizza and soft drink, dinner obviously more, than transport on top.

And yes, you can just use a credit card for larger payments, but don’t forget a small tip (€2-5) to a restaurant waiter. No tips for stand up coffee.

Rome is cheap compared to much of Italy, so eating in trattorias in Trastevere etc will be no more than €20 a head for a bowl of pasta. I'd agree with @Sgtmajormummy

I'd also get the metro in rather than taxis. Cheap as chips and pretty efficient.

Eddmr · 05/10/2023 11:56

I wouldn't carry cash especially if using the metro. Lots of pickpockets. Didn't find food expensive in little pizza and pasta places.

Chemenger · 05/10/2023 12:02

The metro is €1.50 a trip and you can tap your credit card or phone at the gate, very easy. We were there last week and spent €60-90 per dinner (for 2, 2 courses plus drinks) it didn’t feel particularly expensive to eat. We ate in pretty cheap and cheerful places, no fine dining. We took one 10 minute taxi ride and it was about €10. We used very little cash, just the taxi. Everything on credit or debit card.

I'd don't take cash when I go away just get it there. If you pay by card say no to accepting the exchange rate.

Id budget €150 ppn per day

Torganer · 05/10/2023 12:27

Get a Monzo or Chase card. Excellent exchange rates. We were in Rome a few months ago and didn’t use any money at all, a lot of places were cashless like over here.

ApolloandDaphne · 05/10/2023 12:29

I would take very little cash and use cards only.

I'd do this but add an additional 200 euros as emergency money and take my credit card.

Thanks all that's great, just wanted to see what a daily budget was realistic there.
