So we love museums, sightseeing and quirky things for kids , which of the above would you recommend for new year?

Any fabulous, local traditions?
Copenhagen is definitely the favourite due to Tivoli but we can be convinced otherwise!

Check that Tivoli is open at that time of year - we went in February and it was shut. The rest of Copenhagen is brilliant, the DAC amazing etc etc. It's super expensive out there but very easy to get around, and some really great things to see. Both my 6 and 12 year old loved it.

Thanks. Tivoli definitely open for Christmas and new year, what is Dac?

I usually do NYE away in a European city
NYD is almost always nothing open and many places close at lunch on NYE
So not the best time to go away with children (unlike us for whom the pub is fine!)

Really? I used to do city breaks at ny a lot pre kids and found everywhere shuts bit definitely opens later! Also we'd be there from around the 29th dec to do the sightseeing and probably fly home on the 1st jan. I’ve found lots of countries have their own unique traditions, ie grapes in Spain, wearing white in Brazil. I’ve just had a google and apparently red underwear is the thing in Italy!!

I've done NYE in Budapest and it was pretty wild. The food and craft stalls in the square during the day were great. At night the square was packed with people just setting off fireworks in the crowd. Having said that there didn't seen to be any trouble as such. Not sure I'd take a 7 year old.

Yeah, should’ve been clearer. I doubt we’d actually be out at midnight so looking for somewhere that
a-has a family feel
b-sights and decent museums for kids or at least kid friendly
c-traditions we can partake in

I think Copenhagen is going to be the one for us.

Forget Rome. It's meh. Plenty of history, but just didn't feel it. Wasn't friendly.

Budapest is great and cheap. Lots to see/do. We loved.

Copenhagen is fab. But £££££. Especially that time of year. Just be aware that it's better pre-christmas simply because of the markets. By New Year they've all closed.
