Alps summer holidays with two young boys!

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your time! We're thinking that in summer 2025 we may take our holiday abroad with our two boys who will be age 7 and 4. The Alps looks like it could be perfect, but I'm struggling to work out which specific area will be best and provide easy access to the various activities we'd be looking for. Advice much appreciated.
Key criteria and interests:

  • Less than 1 hour from airport.
  • Self-catering accommodation
  • July or August 2025
  • Good chance of warm weather (above 20 degrees celsius).
  • Easy access (under 45mins drive/public transport) to a wide range of activities that work well with very young children. Things I reckon that would work really well with our boys include adventure playgrounds, summer tobaganning, beach, swimming/kayaking, short but scenic walks, cycling (on easy level ground), anything animal/wildlife related
  • Restaurants/pubs/cafes ideally within walking distance or short drive of accommodation
Once we have narrowed down the area, then I'm wondering what the best route to finding the accommodation is. AirBnb? Certain websites you'd recommend? Many thanks

Just adding, it might be a bit over budget. At the time we had their summer family package which included the apartment, breakfast and bike hire. But we were home educating at the time and could go outside school holidays. www.hotel-kaltenbach.at/en/hotel-zillertal/packages/family-summer/

Saalbach Hinterglemm in Austria is lovely with loads to do for families (Montelino's Adventure path, Berg Kodok etc.) We flew to Salzburg and I think the transfer was about an hour and a half.

Yes I was going to say here or the Ortzel valley - Austria is great for kids in the summer at the top of the cable cars there are always lots of playgrounds and activities along with trials etc. book somewhere that has the free summer cards that give you access to the cable cars and often things like access to the swimming pools and mini golf etc for free..

Even if the area or accommodation doesn’t include free summer cable cars passes, most other areas in Austria you can buy a weeks pass for around £70 for an adult ( about half for a child). So if you can find considerable cheaper accommodation it’s worth just buying passes. They include things like free cable cars, zoos, outdoor pools, and various other attractions

We were in Schladming last summer and our accommodation didn't provide the Sommerpass. We couldn't buy it separately.

@NCTDN it will depend on area. For example we offer a local card to our guests, It includes unlimited lake access passes ( our nearest lake has all paid for access) local pool and local toll roads, plus some other discounts. This is not possible for guests to buy if accommodation doesn’t offer.

However the Region pass that offers all the cable cars, attractions etc is available to buy from the tourist office ( or online). This is not normal in our area to be included at any accommodation
