Yes to the passport, and you can't have same day service for a new passport for a baby so you may be cutting it fine with getting one.

The baby would probably be fine (though someone may correct me I don't think there is really a minimum age). Just feed on take off and landing to help them to pop their ears (sucking works a treat)

As for you, depends on your birth really. You may have a fantastic birth, not tear at all and feel wonderful. Or you might not. (not trying to scare just pointing out that nobody knows how you will feel). Plus if you are 2 weeks late then you will be on a plane with a 2 week old, and probably not feeling up to it!

From my personal experience, I would definitely not have felt up to a plane journey at 4w p-n. It's not just the plane journey, but the whole airport experience as well. Besides, the baby may not be 4w on the travel date - it might be 6w, or 2w, or even less.

I'm pretty sure the LO would need a passport, but you can get them arranged very quickly if you're willing to pay extra or, sometimes, go to the Passport Office in person.

Personally I would not fly with a newborn unless absolutely necessary. The first weeks after birth is a period of great change, there are physiological changes taking place in the lungs, heart, and circulation, that are critical to normal development. Why compromise them by exposing the baby to low air-pressure, poor air quality, and billions of germs in a small space?
