Hi all, my 11 year old has told me he would like our next holiday to be in either Portugal or Turkey.

I am looking myself but i need it to be on the beach - literally beachfront and very close to the airport. For august next year.

All inclusive is fine although I do find it gets a bit claustrophobic after a few days so I dont mind breakfast only then venture out in the evenings for dinner.

If anyone has recommendations, Id be grateful. Beach front and close to airport. Thank you

My daughter used to get really sick on a coach so we would get a taxi, worked well in most cases, much cheaper than booking with operator too. It saves waiting around, might be quicker and better for your son?

algarve is gorgeous but a lot of hotels are on a cliff, Alvor is nice

My brother always got really carsick too so either a taxi or private transfer was always on the cards. We did a coach drop off type once and it must've took 3 hours with drop offs and luggage and he threw up the whole time. Im leaning towards turkey atm going by the kind recommendations.

Not being able to afford a holiday sucks, trust me I’ve been there, but this was posted in holidays.

please don’t try and make people feel bad for having a holiday. Most people scrimp and save all year to afford one. I know we do as it’s a priority for us. There’s lots of other things we go without or try to spend as little as possible on to be able to afford one.

Vilamoura/quarteira looks like a nice place OP and not too far from Faro airport though might be a bit more than 15 mins. I’ve not been myself but looks like a good place for a holiday with good infrastructure.

Not quite what you are looking for, but Porto has a lovely beach...

I am opening a tab with each recommendation and im going to go through them all tonight. Thank you all

@Peregrine93

You can hide the holiday topic 🙂

@CharlotteStreetW1 thank you for being nice about it and not just rude and overreacting.

I didn’t follow the holiday topic and didn’t realise it was in the holiday chat and that’s why I commented.

portugalvsturkey · 22/09/2023 11:19

@cherryassam your recommendations are all so hard to choose between! thanks so much, they all meet my criteria perfectly. Thankyou

Coincidentally I was looking at Portugal earlier in the week. There are lots of nice hotels in vilamoura but it’s about 35 mins from the airport so might be too far for you?

Verite1 · 22/09/2023 11:40

Oh and just ignore that other poster. It’s absolutely ridiculous to suggest you can’t ask for holiday recommendations (on the holiday forum!!!). And no need to justify it at all.

portugalvsturkey · 22/09/2023 11:42

@Verite1 its just a little too far my son if he's unwell. My last hotel was a 3 euro cab from the airport, less than 2 minutes and it was so helpful as he was unwell travelling home. Yes queing and security and a plane journey was hellish so that short transfer was one less thing to deal with. hopefully some more people jump on for recommendations for you, im set on turkey now, just deciding which one ☺️

I’m glad they fit the bill!

I wonder if it’s worth having a look at the map and seeing how close the main hotel building is to the beach as a way of narrowing down the choices.

Miracle, Titanic Deluxe and Delphin BE Grand are all a touch closer I think.

If there are any other particular requirements let me know and I can do some digging

If you fly to Dalaman in Turkey, there are several Tui and a Hilton resort in Sarigerme, about 20 mins away.

portugalvsturkey · 22/09/2023 12:00

@cherryassam i did just that, they vary between beachfront and a few hundred meters which is perfect. How are you so good at finding things?! I usually go on love holidays and click 'beach' and 'close to airport' but i didnt get as many results as you!

Lara Barut in Turkey is really good! Quite expensive but everything is included and transfer was only like 15 mins! I went this year so would really recommend it.
