Anyone good with Ryanair

buzzwordten · 20/09/2023 07:57

It’s cheaper for me to fly from Glasgow to Stanstead and then out to Spain by more than half if I went direct.

The Glasgow - Stanstead flight lands at 7.20 am and the flight out to Spain is at 08.45.

If this was BA, I know they’d check me right thought but I am not sure with Ryanair if this would be enough time any. Any thoughts? I am hand luggage only.

I think it would be enough time to actually transit, but what about delays? We've just flown to/from Glasgow with Ryanair and both flights were delayed - one by almost 2 hours.

StillWantingADog · 20/09/2023 08:03

Nah. You would have to do security etc. and ryanair are notorious for delays

on the way back you’d have to factor in border immigration queue as well as security.

but if you can get a gap of 3.5 hours plus, i’d do it. Or an overnight stay in stansted.

Menopants · 20/09/2023 08:03

You will miss your flight. They don’t check the luggage through. Even with several hours between flights it’s not worth the risk

Op does not have luggage

i think you’re not leaving enough time but I do wonder if you would be able to exit “airside” at stansted as you have no luggage, and thus avoid doing security again. Probably not. Bu

I think this is more about airport knowledge than Ryanair knowledge. I don’t know stanstead but at my local I’m always through security in about 10 minutes so I think I’d have plenty of time. I fly a lot and have been delayed twice in the last few years. I think Ryanair are actually one of the better flights for not having delays….

Moopyhereagain · 20/09/2023 08:06

Nope - you will have to do security again, not enough time - even if no delays imo

Kissmas · 20/09/2023 08:06

In the interests of research I think you should do it OP 🤣

BippityBobbityBoo · 20/09/2023 08:09

Check the departure schedule regularly from stanstead for a few days. Are delays regular?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/09/2023 08:11

You pre check in on the app like weeks before you fly, so you won't need anyone to check you through. Is there a map of Gatwick Airport showing transit? Some airports you can move from the tarmac straight thru to the departure lounge.

FettleOfKish · 20/09/2023 08:12

I've transited a thousand times as I live offshore so have to transit to get anywhere other than the UK.

I would only risk less than 2 hours with a through ticket, or if I was desperate with easyJet's 'dohop' cover where they'll move you to another flight if you miss your connection.

Never in a million years with Ryanair, unless they have a similar transfer insurance system as easyJet, and depending what the T&Cs are.

To answer a PP, I've never transferred at Stanstead but I've always had to clear security again even if I don't have to technically 'exit' the airport and go back through (at Heathrow you follow transfer channels, at Gatwick you have to exit as normal and go back through normal departures).

Lockthedoorbehindyou · 20/09/2023 08:15

I don't think she'd have to go through the normal security/passport control again, this is what their website says:

If you are connecting from a UK flight to an international flight you will need to pass through special immigration control points where you may be asked to show your passport.

FettleOfKish · 20/09/2023 08:37

According to this link, Stansted (unlike Heathrow) isn't built with dedicated transfer channels, so all transit passengers need to exit arrivals as normal and go back through departures, which will include normal departure security.

OP won't need to clear passport control when she lands from Glasgow as there should be a domestic route to follow to baggage, but she will need to go back through. As I remember Stansted is big too, with a shuttle train required for some gates.

buzzwordten · 20/09/2023 08:39

Thanks. I hadn’t appreciated Stanstead doesn’t have flight connections. Will have a re think.

notimagain · 20/09/2023 09:21

AFAIK Ryanair do not do connected flights/bookings and with them being Stansted’s (one “a”) major customer there’s probably little to no demand there for the sort of airside transit facilities you see at some other airports.

Kissmas · 20/09/2023 09:25

What kind of saving are we talking about? Half of 1k or half of £100?

The ballache of getting off and back on and risking 2 lots of delays and issues would have to be worth it money wise. It's a 2/3 hour flight

House4DS · 20/09/2023 10:48

The key problem is that you are travelling on 2 separate tickets, not 1 ticket from Glasgow to Spain via Stansted.
If your first plane is delayed such that you miss the second one, Ryanair will not sort the problem. You will have to buy a new ticket.

Moonlightsonatas · 20/09/2023 10:54

Are there flights from Edinburgh or another nearby airport that might be cheaper but wouldn’t involve a change of plane?

Silkiebunny · 20/09/2023 11:06

If first flight is delayed, I have never had this much with Ryanair but it happens, you would miss the second flight. When we flew direct to Azores but there weren't direct flights back we did an overnight stay to solve this. That was fine and all flights were on time. If it was on time it would work but it's a gamble and would advise against that gap.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/09/2023 11:07

Is the Glasgow flight one of the first ones out that morning? If so they are rarely delayed as the planes are already on the tarmac waiting

notimagain · 20/09/2023 11:17

TBH looking at past performance re timings, even for first flights of the day, may provide a bit of comfort but of course no guarantees.

We're moving into autumn and there's more of a change of unhelpful weather.

It only needs a bit of fog or mist at Stansted leading to the need for arrival slots and it's anybody's guess on how timings will work out or not.

Topseyt123 · 20/09/2023 13:05

The timing is too short. You could easily miss the second flight if the first is at all delayed so I wouldn't risk it.

Hotsaucegal · 20/09/2023 14:27

Wouldn’t risk it tbh. You will have to exit and go back through security… only really gives you an hour to do all that (as boarding closes 20 mins before departure) - just about doable but very tight and if any delays will definitely miss connection and have book new flight as on separate tickets!

FurthestUPNorth · 22/09/2023 04:08

Not enough time

SchadenfreudeIstMeinMittelname · 22/09/2023 04:41

I wouldn't use Ryanair for any journey that was not absolutely straightforward.

bert3400 · 22/09/2023 05:55

I fly Alicante to Stansted every month, sometimes more. I know the airport pretty well. The Domestic arrivals is at the completely opposite end to the gates for most Spanish flights . I would ask Stansted if they have a transit gate at the domestic part of the airport, if the do you should be ok , if they don't and you have to go back through security you may have an issue . I'm at Stansted this afternoon I could ask for you at information about the transit options . What Spanish airport are you flying too ?
