So we have booked 3 nights in Verona followed by 3 nights in Bardolina Lake Garda going in 2 weeks time

i keep reading that 1 day to explore Verona is enough so we’re thinking of days trips by train from Verona

where would you go ? Venice or Florence? Or somewhere else? Thank you

Venice isn’t far. Very easy to get to and well worth it. The No1 Vaporetto water bus leaves from the station plaza and takes you to every stop on the Grand Canal. So decide what you want to see and get off and walk. It’s also a fantastic journey along the canal!

Florence is much further. I would save it for a separate holiday,

You could easily get to Desenzano del Garda. Take a boat trip from there around Lake Garda. It’s very pretty and lovely places to get off and explore. Have a lazy lunch!

Or go to Padua. It has the amazing Scrovegni chapel and other places to visit. One of the oldest universities in the world and they do tours. Lovely places to eat too.

@mumma24 Go by train, by the way.

Definitely Venice. And as @TizerorFizz says, Verona is on the direct line to the south end of the lake, so Desenzano etc.

I was going to suggest Padova too. The Giotto frescoes are amazing. Another option is the UNESCO city of Ferrara.

I found Italy very easy to get around via the train.

Bologna!! It could be less than an hour on the train from Verona if you get a high speed train, tickets not too expensive according to trainline and it’s a gorgeous, walkable friendly city, and the food.. my god the food 🤤

Thank you @TizerorFizz great suggestions, really looking forward to it

I'm only commenting on here for the ideas as I'm off to Bardolino wine festival for 4 nights on 30/9 then 3 nights in Verona. I've been before and it's a beautiful city but loving the idea of a train to Bologna.

Bologna is definitely worth it for the day but in many ways Padua has the chapel with the frescoes but the uni at Bologna is even older! Bologna is worth staying at for a base. Then you can easily get the train to Ferrara, Parma, Modena and Ravenna for day trips.
