As the title says, what is your favourite city break / short break destination from the UK?

I’d love to know about where you stayed, what you did, where you ate, why you loved it.

Me and DH both travel lots for work but I want to prioritise us actually getting away together for once! Because of our schedules, we’re unlikely to get more than 4 or 5 nights at most to go away.

Amsterdam is my favourite but it's so expensive now, I booked to go to Krakow instead yesterday. easyJet holidays have a sale on and so do Ba holidays.

Amsterdam is so lovely isn’t it. I went to Krakow as a teenager whilst interrailing and have been to the Christmas markets but not really done much else there. It’s on the list - did you get a good deal?

I have lots of favourites! But I'll just pick one - Lisbon. We stayed in an Airbnb in the Alfama district. I wouldn't recommend the apartment as the bathroom smelt of drains - but the area was lovely and I'd go back and stay somewhere else.

It had lovely old, winding streets full of independent shops selling quirky arts, crafts, clothes and jewellery. There were also lots of restaurants, bars and places to admire the views and soak up the atmosphere. I found the Portuguese friendly and not anti-English at all (what a lovely surprise!) and everyone spoke English (which was great, because I don't speak Portuguese). The food was good. It was cheap! There was lots to do - nice shops and museums and outdoor stuff. It was easy to get around too - we walked a lot and took an occasional Uber. We found the public transport - trams particularly - crowded.

I thought so £250 quid each 3 nights in a 5 star hotel with luggage transfers and insurance.

Budapest. Gorgeous naturally heated outdoor and indoor spas everywhere, from Roman to 1930s. River cruise along the Danube. Fantastic museums from the cave hospital to the House of Terror. Ruin bars and jazz bars for night life. Beautiful markets, parks, squares, avenues to stroll around, have coffee etc. it is the most magical, beautiful city I've ever been to.

Furnas in Azores - loved it whole island was like a big botanical garden with waterfalls and lovely pink flowers everywhere. The hot springs - our hotel had 2 big hot spring pools open almost 24/7 and loved it. Ate in Furnas lovely food, sweet breads, lovely fish dishes. Beautiful lakes and scenery and not many people. When we were there pilgrims were walking around the whole island between the old churches dressed in tartan with walking sticks and there was a motor race on in the hills. It was like entering a different world. Octant Furnas hotel.

Also love Venice and stay on Venice Lido, beautiful place, stayed at Villa Edera there and also in town Marconi.

It's between Krakow & Prague, similar offerings and just lovely to wander round

Krakow - Stary hotel - pricey but worth it, although lots of cheaper alternatives. River trip, fabulous main square, green spaces, loads of historic buildings - churches, synagogues, Wawel castle. Amazing food and not too expensive. Option to do Auschwitz trip if you want to (harrowing, but very humbling, educational and worthwhile)

Prague - Melia Innside hotel - v clean, modern & spacious with great service. River cruises, lots of squares with numerous bars and restaurants, beautiful buildings everywhere, including cathedrals. Did a great vintage car tour too
